This week’s discussion focused on social work and its ties to psychology. Social work is based on the values of human rights and social justice. Whereas some jobs may disregard the basic civil liberties of others, social workers want to fight for equality and change for others who may face obstacles in their everyday lives. Going into this field, there are two different programs—bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) or master’s degree in social work (MSW) with Advanced Standing. Applying to master’s or bachelor’s program one must have an overall GPA of 3.0, but a 3.5 GPA in the major. Once accepted, you begin doing 25 hours of service learning; during junior year 40 hours of service learning are required and by the time you reach the end of

Critical Analysis: Chapter 8 Review including NC Professional School Social Work Standards INTRODUCTION This critical analysis will reflect the information parallel in Chapter 8 and NC School Social Workers Professional Standards (4). The reader will be able to better understand the standards as they relate to "societal issues" in schools. Chapter 8 covers the challenges that many schools face when dealing with students of varying biopsychosocial constraints. Jarolmen, 2014 reflected upon a variety of social problems of said student populations that can disable or even paralyze individual learning.
Upon completing this program I plan to work with individuals seeking support, guidance, and personal growth. To fortify this work, I intend to attain clinical licensure. Although social work practices can ameliorate client troubles, I would also like the ability to find possible solutions within diagnoses, further evaluation, and treatment. Utilizing the Advanced Clinical Practice concentration offered in this program will allow me to become familiar with working in clinical settings and apply my coursework knowledge to real work situations. A crucial piece I look for when entering an academic program or workplace is the ability to create real, tangible change.
Based on the social worker’s observations, the client appears to be neat in appearance and hygiene. His clothes are not wrinkled and he appears clean. The client asked many questions to the social worker and has stated he expects the social worker to always have an answer for everything. The social worker feels as if Conrad may not have an outlet for his feelings outside of therapy. The client tends to interrupt the social worker so that he may speak about what’s on his mind.
Per the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work mission statement, as social workers we seek to enhance human well-being and promote human rights and social and economic justice to achieve an equitable, healthy, and productive society. Looking closely at my personal morals and values I found this mission statement to hold true to myself and what I expect out of my work when pursuing a professional degree in social work. Through my own trauma healing journey, I have found myself reaching into my past and reconnecting the way I was treated by the system to how I can utilize those memories into fulfilling actions that can truly better even the life of one client. One of the biggest issues I believe the community faces is a lack of resources and access to equal opportunities.
In this paper, I will assess my identity and my personal history and how it relates to social work professions. I first address my personal history and cultural background, where I came from, as well as my experience in working in the community. I then talk about my overall strengths, both in personal and professional lives. My strengths are listening skills, open-mindedness, respect for diversity and eagerness to learn and improve my weaknesses. Afterward, I discuss my weaknesses, such as nonassertive communication skill and low self-esteem problems, and how I plan to address these issues.
Rational for the observations The rational for using these observations retrospectively is to make sense of the whole person Amy’s life history, looking over her notes, why had she not engaged historically? Why the resistance? I wanted to understand how and why this was happening not just respond to the immediate crisis, rehouse and decontaminate her home for the behavioural pattern to be repeated. This method allowed me to explore theories of human growth and development and evaluate them with criticality (Monette et. 2014).
Modern social workers are frequently tasked with certain objectives by their agencies, which leave little room for any work beyond specific treatments and timeframes (Gitterman & Knight, 2016). Although social workers are bound to the set of ethics put forth by the NASW, practitioners are often limited to focusing on the issues of the individual rather than the larger societal issues that may be behind those concerns. Additionally, many social work students end up working in direct practice, rather than macro work. There is a need for social workers to engage at the macro level in order to facilitate community organization and empowerment. Critics suggest this theory may not take into account the unique experiences of each individual and perhaps key characteristics of the individual or group are not taken into consideration (Sadan, 1997).
Something that I consider to be both a strength and a weakness in my social work career is my gentle and reassuring manner. On the surface, this may seem like an excellent trait to have. I am very much a “people person” and others are naturally drawn to me. I tend to look at situations in a positive light as much as possible and have become an expert in removing tension between family members or dealing with end-of-life concerns. The majority of the residents value this quality in me and seek me out when a difficult decision needs to be made.
I am confident that the skills that I will gain from completing a social work master’s degree will help me collaborate with people in need and aid sustainable growth in their lives. My first introduction to social work as a profession came while living on a small
My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I feel I have exhausted every possible avenue in my current degree field. Pursuing a master’s in Social Work, will give me the diversity that I need, while aiding me in bringing my dreams of working more in depth with clients, by helping assist them with their individual needs and issues to reality. The Social work field also offers versatility which allows me to work in many dimensions, such as clinical, case management, and many other composites which enables me to help every population. Becoming a social worker gives me other benchmarks in which I can use to evaluate programs,
During my interview with my friend, Breanna Willis, I was practicing my skills as a social worker and she was my client. Throughout my interview I was able to gather information from Breanna, to see what was going on with her and help find a goal plan. My documentation will include preparation for the interview, a self-critique of the entire interview, and feedback from my interviewee. More so, this interview was to better help me form into a better social worker and let me know the corrections I need to work on for any future interviews I may have as a social worker.
Throughout this essay I am going to discuss the scientific discipline of social psychology, I will give a brief definition and history of the discipline. I will talk about some important people who contributed to the development of social psychology, such a Wundt and Triplett who are both considered founders of social psychology. As well as others who conducted studies in the field such as Carl Hovland and Kurt Lewin. One person who had a major influence in the development of social psychology is Adlof Hitler. Some of the most significant studies that were conducted were in the aftermath of the Second World War.

Social work and psychology are very different disciplines; even though psychology is mainly academic and social work is chiefly applied they have a very cordial mutual reliance on each other. What we can say is, psychology is the science that studies the behaviour of human beings and formulates theories that can be of use in understanding an individual, whereas social work is the practical application of those related theories for bettering the welfare of people and development of society in general. Projections, a phenomenon that is a part of psychology is the main aspect that majorly decides how an individual reacts and behaves in a certain situation, this phenomena helps a social worker analyse and modulate the human behaviour.
