That Was Then, This Is Now by S.E. Hinton tells the story of two friends, Bryon and Mark, who are so close they are like brothers. As the book progresses, Bryon and Mark start to grow apart. Eventually Bryon turns Mark into the police for selling drugs. Bryon did the right thing. Bryon was right got turning Mark in because Mark’s actions were not only illegal but could cause danger to everyone in the house. Mark had been doing illegal things since he was little; he didn’t see anything wrong with it. Mark was going to get caught, eventually due to the fact that selling drugs is highly illegal. Bryon found the drugs in a long cylindrical container under Mark’s bed (Hinton 145). If the wrong people begin to find out Mark is a drug dealer, they may follow him back to where he lives. If they break in to get a fix for themselves while Mark is gone and Bryon or his mother is home, one of them could get hurt or even get killed. Bryon had made the right decision to turn Mark in before something terrible could happen. Mark probably didn’t think about the …show more content…
Bryon could also have been wrong for turning Mark in. Mark and Bryon were like brothers. Mark would do anything for Bryon if he asked. Bryon should have thought it out before automatically turning Mark. Bryon was unstable emotionally at the time he found the drugs. Drugs had hurt M&M so Bryon couldn’t see the good motives Mark had. Mark was trying to make money because nobody would hire him. Selling drugs was the next best thing. He believed he was a good drug dealer because he didn’t take them. He told Bryon “They’re going to get it from somebody if they wanted it, so why can’t I make some money? I never forced it on anybody. I never tried to talk somebody into using drugs so I could make a buck.” (Hinton 147). Mark had very good motives for selling the drugs. He just wanted to get money for him and Mark. Mark would’ve stopped selling if Bryon would’ve told him
In the book Monster Steve Harmon is a 16-year-old boy accused of being an accomplice in robbery and murder. Our judicial system is based on the common belief of “innocent until proven guilty.” Steve Harmon was found beyond a reasonable doubt innocent, and that was the only reasonable conclusion the jury could have came to. Although contrary to popular belief, even after the testimony’s saying Steve was the so-called “look out” in the crime, the facts tip the scale in the opposite direction. If Steve was in fact the look out, why was there no signal from Steve when he exited the drug store nor did he get a cut of the money for his “part” in the crime?

First it seems to me that Mark starts to understand how he could get each of hit students to write, but the staff at juvenile hall doubted mark thinking he made the inmates feel special and wont be able to get them to write. I believe mark gained confidence from being doubted and underestimated from the staff. Mark knows what was better for the students
It necessarily is not your fault for having urge to want to do the drugs because you may be scared they will make fun of you or tell you it is okay to do them. So with your friends convincing you it’s okay to do something illegal, you do it, but know after you use the drugs it was the worst decision in your life and then regret every minute of it. This shows how some people are not completely complicit on purpose there can be multiple reasons why someone gets involved with something bad and illegal without it being intentional. To relate this to the novel, the Congo situation would not of happened if Nathan would not have put them in the situation of agreeing to go there.

For the Application of the Criminal Justice System project of the Criminal Justice course, I chose the arrest of John Burke. This case is about the arrest and sentencing of John Burke who had shot and killed Joseph Ronan. Twenty-five year old John Burke agreed to meet with 22 year old Joseph Ronan at Ronans home, in Reading, Massachusetts on Monday, August 15, 2011 around 1pm, with the intent of purchasing Percocet pills. (Boston.com, 2013) However, shortly after entering Ronans home, Burke opened fire (News, 2011), and after shooting Joseph Ronan several times, with the belief that Ronan was involved in a robbery at Burkes apartment in April 2011 (Boston.com, 2013), fled the home.
If you were blamed for a crime you didn’t do, would you let that accusation go and let it tarnish your reputation? Would you let it fly by and have others judge from every angle? No, right? Normally people who get accused of crimes demand justice as they know they did not commit the crime and only justice can give them the freedom they deserve. But let’s look at Steve Harmon, the main character from the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers who was on trial for murder.
“The saddest sight these days is the imagine of hundreds of children kidnapped and lured into being child soldiers from the age of eight”(Roger Moore).”A Long Way Gone”was written by Ishmael Beah and published in 2007. As horrible and terrifying the experience was for Ishmael Beah starting in Sierra Leone from a young age,he still had enough courage to publish his own memoir. As a kid Ishmael was a happy child that loved music and dance. While performing rap music with his friends away from home his village got attacked by the rebels. Without knowing if his family is alive or not he has to survive on his own going from village to village.
The Gift of Years, is a book written in 2008 by Joan Chittister, a nun for fifty-years and author more than thirty-five books. The excerpt from this book is only five pages but they are five powerful pages that makes one think of their life and how we leave this Earth. Chittister writes about leaving a legacy but not the type modern society thinks of. She points out how many of us neglect to grow our spirit for the sake of material things and the time to find a new kind of strength. The end is near but it is only the beginning.
Graduation at Northern HS in Baltimore, MD. (108) What does it mean to graduate from high school to a student like Woody? It means significant achievement for a student like Woody to graduate from high school because even though Maryland had one one the highest graduation rates in the nation, in Baltimore city, the rate of the graduation from the high school is exceptionally low.
“My children, this country has lost it’s good heart. People don’t trust each other anymore. Years ago, you would have been heartily welcomed in this village. I hope that you boys find safety before this untrustworthiness and fear causes someone to harm you” (Beah 16). During times of war, trust and survival cease to coexist.
Mark 's situation is way more complex. He doesn 't have any
Finally, Bryon was right for turning Mark in because Mark was putting the whole household at risk. Mark had his drugs under his mattress in Bryon and his house (Hinton 145). This put everyone in the house at risk because someone could break in to get Mark’s drugs or money as people start to recognize what kind of business he is doing. Some people may argue that Bryon’s decision was wrong because he and Mark were best friends.
Before I discuss the theories, I would like to point out the Jean 's important actions that will be analyze to determine whether he acts justly. The first point to realize is that Jean acted based on his self interest of saving his friend. Second, Jean broke laws by hacking into the Pharmacy 's security. Third, Jean lied (arguable) to the pharmacist. Fourth, Jean made the pharmacist break rules by giving Jean medication that he would otherwise not give if he knew the truth.
