In October 1859, the U.S. military arms stockpile at Harper 's Ferry was the objective of a strike by a furnished band of abolitionists drove by John Brown (1800-59).The attack was planned to be the first stage in an involved arrangement to build up an autonomous fortification of liberated slaves in the mountains of Maryland and Virginia. Brown was caught amid the attack and later sentenced conspiracy and hanged, however the strike kindled white Southern reasons for alarm of slave uprisings and expanded the mounting strain in the middle of Northern and Southern states before the American Civil War (1861-65). After mastering subjugation men ambushed the abolitionist town of Lawrence on May 21, 1856, Brown before long searched for requital. A couple of days sometime later, he and his kids attacked a social affair of hotels along Pottawatomie Creek. They killed five men with long swords and set off a late spring of guerilla battling in the tormented space. One of Brown 's kids was executed in the doing combating. On the night of October 16, 1859, Brown and his band overran the government munitions stockpile. Some of his men gathered together a modest bunch of prisoners, including a couple slaves. Expression of the attack spread and by the next day Brown and his men were encompassed. On October 18, an organization of U.S. Marines, drove by Colonel Robert E. Lee (1808-70) and Lieutenant J. E. B. Stuart (1833-64), overran Brown and his devotees. Brown was injured and caught, while 10 of his men were slaughtered, including two of his children. Brown was attempted by the condition of Virginia for injustice and murder, and discovered liable on November 2.The 59-year-old abolitionist went to the scaffold on December 2, 1859.
