In 1846 The Mexican-American War began lasting till 1848. The United States acquisitive need for more land was their only motive for starting a war with Mexico. The United States started an unjustified war with the newly independent country just more territory.
Polk stated that “The Mexican Government not only refused to receive him [the U.S. envoy] or listen to his propositions, but after a long-continued series of menaces have at last invaded our territory and shed the blood of our fellow-citizens on our own soil.”(Polk message to congress 1846) which complete falsification of the truth. Mexico never back out of agreement for the United States to buy territory because the US made deal with a deal with Mexico. The US made a deal with Spain.
