Today in America we have a crime problem that has been around for generations. Governments in each states spends an enormous amount of money for prisons, police salaries, courthouse and etc. just to try to keep up with the growing amount of law offenders that we have today. Whether we, the citizens like it or not we are exposed with violent behavior from the movies we watch to the music we listen to. Watching the evening news and the top headline news is about the “Orlando Shooting” suspect kills 49 (CNN.com) you are already exposed to violence. Even if you are a person who doesn’t watch violent movies or listen to music about killing or drugs, you pay to try to prevent crime from happening around your home. American’s put locks on their doors, security camera’s around there house, pay for insurance (house or car) just in case they happen to become a victim of robbery or burglary. Crime is something that will continue to happen throughout the United States, but through crime control and prevention we can try to reduce these figures.

Citizens want to feel safe in their neighborhood and the police officers want to apprehend the suspect before more victims are identified. If the police department and the citizens in the community work together it becomes beneficial for both sides, this is called community – policing. Community – policing is an example of crime prevention it’s about bringing the citizens and the police department together to collaborate in an effort to address the concerning crime problems within the community.
