Often in literature, comparing stories will lead to revelations about human nature. Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games both share a motif of being trapped and take human nature to another level. Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games prove that working together and looking out for each other will give you a greater shot at victory. One very significant similarity is that in both books the characters are trapped on an island and fighting for their safety and survival. In Lord of the Flies, school boys, Ralph, Roger, Simeon, Piggy, Jack and along with other kids are trapped on an island and have to fight for survival, but, after a while of being on the island the civilization starts to die and so do the boys from violence and lack of communication.
Both works ask us: what are the limits of the human spirit and how do we fight EVIL within ourselves? Similarly, in the book Lord of the Flies, EVIL is presented as being innate, unwanted, even though it can be used to motivate and aid us in critical situations. When the boys first discovered they were marooned
There are different types of conflict in the novel but the biggest is the one between Ralph and Jack, where Ralph is a leader who is civilized and tries to keep the order on the island, where as Jack is obsessed with hunting and killing. Jack and his hunters chased Ralph through the jungle out unto the shore where they saw the naval officer; it was the appearance of the officer which stopped the boys from murdering Ralph. if people would act like this in reality , it would mean there would be no civilization an order therefore people should not consider violence as a way to solve the
Ray Bradbury and William Golding have very similar themes in their books. All the way from human interaction and social conditioning. Lord of the Flies consists of a story due to the lack of social conditioning and Fahrenheit 451 portrays what it's like after too much too powerful social conditioning. Connecting the overlapping ideas of social conditioning, knowledge, identity, and truth in these two novels leads to a better understanding of human behavior.
The theme in William Golding’s Novel Lord of the Flies is to portray the image of this inner evil that lives inside of everyone. When comparing the novel to the film we can see this theme weakened in many ways. Instead of English choir boys like the novel the director replaces these choir boys with American cadets in the film. There is also the image of the ‘beast’ which is portrayed very differently than in the novel, and causes confusion on what the actual ‘beast’ is. The film is also not able to give us the in depth character analysis that we see in the book, and can make it hard to understand the role of each character, and there purpose in the story.
The Retrogression into a Savage-Like State Throughout Lord of the Flies, Golding illustrates a viewpoint many have labeled unlikely or impractical. He argues that all of mankind is capable of a behavior unlike society’s belief of normal human conduct. Society could truly be capable of retrogression into a savage-like state. Although the young boys in the novel are perceived as being the embodiment of innocence, their stay on the island depicts exactly how capable they are of such behavior. The novel paints a story that holds a deeper meaning than what the words on the page are attempting to reveal to the reader.
How Savagery Takes Over George R.R. Martin once said, “There is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs.” William Golding demonstrates that every person has savagery inside of him in his novel, Lord of the Flies. In this novel, Golding shows us that civilization is lost and savagery begins when the urge to kill takes hold of us. William Golding’s character development of Jack and motif of weapons help develop his point.
Golding tells how human nature is savagery and darkness in his novel. Lord of the Flies shows that even pure and clean children can be wild, and that their ambition may be a slaver, just like the elders. Over time, people tend to be predisposed to themself inside. Lord of the Flies, which provide us to query and think, seems like a simple matter, but it contains a lot of things inside.
In William Golding’s book Lord of the Flies the Hobbesian idea of man’s natural state of savagery is explored in depth. When a group of British schoolboys are stranded on an uninhabited island after a plane crash a conflict emerges between civilization and savagery, and a rivalry between Jack a supporter of savagery and Ralph who tries to maintain civilization. Without adults, laws, or rules to guide the boys chaos ensues and many of them descend into a state savagery. Through the novel’s unique conditions and Golding 's use of symbols like fire, Ralph, and Jack he book explores the eternal struggle between civility and man 's natural state of savagery.
In Lord of the Flies, Golding explores the idea that human nature, when left without the regulations of society, will become barbaric. As one of the prevailing themes in his work, the dark side of human nature is represented through the novel, not only in symbols and motifs, but in his characters as well. The dark side of human nature is an integral part of the novel 'Lord of the Flies.' William Golding, a British novelist employs symbols, motifs and characters to create the idea that human nature, without civilisation will become barbaric.
The book was suspenseful; it kept drawing me in for more, each and each day. The book really enlightened me because the suspense and action kept my mind thinking and racing with thoughts that I thought I could connect to the book and make predictions on the future events in the book. The themes between my paragraphs were basically saying you have to look at the bigger picture of the story, just like Thomas did in the maze. The theme of my essay correlates with my title. What I mean about ‘running the maze’ is that to get through the maze you have to look at the bigger picture and find a solution.
The story Lord of the Flies is a good representation of how people and especially young people can influence each other in many ways. This can either be positive or negative. In this case it has turned out negative as the boys have constantly tried to seek power and use fear as a tool to get that desperately wanted power. William Golding paints a very harsh picture of humanity. He shows that living under the rules of civilization is not part of our human nature.
