When people feel a strong sense of annoyance or hostility, they display anger. Anger is displayed as one of the seven sins. The other six sins are pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, and sloth. There are many sins shown throughout the stories. For example, in Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, Tybalt shows anger and ends up dying. By examining the outcomes of the sins shown, it is clear, showing the outcomes of humanity’s capacity for evil. In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, the main character and his father were taken by the Nazis and were in a camp. The Nazis show many examples of the theme of humanity's capacity for evil. In the novel, Andy is angry about what Melinda said and decides to vent his anger. Andy sins, showing anger by almost raping Melinda. Andy says, "A freak. I can’t believe anyone listened to you" (Anderson 194). Andy is angry about Melinda telling the truth and speaking out. In this situation, Andy gets angry and tries raping Melinda again. This is anger because Rachelle broke up with him, showing direct anger. This caused Andy to get caught trying to rape Melinda. Sinning can go a long way, which causes Andy to sin again, developing his anger. Near the end of the novel, it is just Andy and Melinda in a room, and Andy tries to hurt Melinda. Andy says, "I think I know what you want" (Anderson 194). This shows anger and lust. Andy raped Melinda before, and this directly shows lust because Andy tries to hurt Melinda again. This displays anger because Juliet is mad that she is being forced to marry Paris. She is angry, so she threatens to kill herself if Friar Lawrence doesn’t come up with a solution. This makes her life worse because, in the end, Romeo and Juliet, along with others, die from this. The sins shown impact the lives of the people, for example, when there is an outcome of the hate between Lord Montague and Lord Capulet. In the play, the Prince is talking to both the Capulets, telling them that their children died because of their hatred. Prince Esculus says, "See what a scourge is laid upon your hate?" (Shakespeare 5.3.296). The Capulets and Montagues hated each other, which showed anger. This anger did nothing good for them, resulting in six deaths and everybody being punished. The last few acts of the play displayed many sins, causing deaths because of their hatred and anger. By examining the outcomes of the sins shown, it is clear that sinning can affect people's lives in relation to humanity’s capacity for evil.
