Within this thematic essay, I will inform the readers about how socialization, culture, and theory. My own work experience will be used to explain the importance of socialization, culture, and theory from a daycare teacher's point of view. From here I will establish how these three are interconnected, but I will also critique them through the readings given in the book with my own work experience. Communication applies because to teach or learn anything then there has to be communication. Take socialization and culture there has to be communicated so that someone who is learning to be a part of a society is socialized, but they cannot do that without immersing themselves in that culture as well which takes knowing how to communicate. …show more content…

A functionalist perspective sees that parts of culture work together to fulfill different societal needs. “They view culture as a reflection of society’s values.” (pg.88, Conerly, Holmes, & Tamang) Whereas conflict theorists think that culture reinforces inequalities in a society that are seen in today's like racism. Then there are symbolic interactionists who look at culture through someone’s “interactions, interpretations, and exchanges between individuals and the symbols that comprise a culture.” (pg. 88, Conerly, Holmes, & Tamang) I think I most connect to the symbolic interactionist way of thinking. They again think that culture reinforces inequalities, and while I could see how culture could do this, I think culture is more complex than that. We as a society could decide to change the way we act and speak in our communities. Say we change so drastically that there are no more inequalities than what would culture be, how would they see culture then? This is why I agree with the symbolic interactionists' view of culture. I also think that in my workplace what inequalities do these kids have when they are all there playing immersing themselves in the same culture as their fellow playmates are being taught?
