The ten year war between the Trojans and Greeks was centered on Helen’s kidnapping. King Menelaus was not at all happy that his beloved Queen had been kidnapped. So, like every king did in those days, he sent 1,186 naval ships and 100,000 soldiers to take back what was rightfully his. The soldiers set siege to the city of Troy, but could not breach the city, due to the Troy’s mighty defences. After ten years, with neither side taking the lead, one of the Greek generals, Odysseus, wanted to go back to his wife, so he decided to end the war. Odysseus came up with a plan to build a great horse, The Trojan Horse. The next morning, the Trojans were ready for the Greek’s attack, but there wasn’t none. Surprised, the Trojans sent out a person to
Homer’s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, contains a man named Odysseus whose story can relate to soldiers in today’s military, and how Odysseus has to persevere to get home. Odysseus is a loving husband who goes to fight in the Trojan War. His son, Telemachus, is born shortly before Odysseus has to leave for the war. The Trojan War is a long fight that lasts ten years.
Ethan Pfeiffle Mr. Kawel ENGL 2 February 21, 2023 Working title This paper will be about how Odysseus became a hero and the obstacles he faced during his journey home, and how my choice text “Long way down” compares with the Odyssey. This essay comes from the odyssey written in the 7th century BC by Homer. Before he was lost at sea and missing for 10 years he was a war hero, he is the one who won the trojan war for the greeks with his genius idea of the trojan horse where they made a hollow horse that they stuffed warriors into and they gave it to the trojans as peace gift but after they celebrated and got drunk and fell asleep the warriors came out and opened the gates to troy and they killed all of the trojans and won the war.
Body paragraph 2: Another one of Odysseus's heroic qualities is his intelligence. During the Trojan war he comes up with eh idea to build a huge wooden horse and to hide in it so they could offer it as an offering. While him and his men were with the cyclops he offered him
The Trojan War lasted for ten years. Odysseus as the soldier and commander is ready to go home to his wife, Penelope and son, Telemachus, but many obstacles came in the way. Odysseus exemplifies being a hero through the acts of leadership, being strategic, and being intelligent on his journey home to Ithaca. Homer in the epic poem writes the life of Odysseus, who exemplifies being
After his success in killing off the Trojans by hiding inside an immense wooden horse and attacking when the Trojans least expected it. After that event, Odysseus started to lose his substantial leader skills. Overall, Odysseus demonstrates characteristics of an inadequate leader in the duration of his journey. First, the sequence of inauspicious incidents happened all because of Odysseus’s poor judgement. Upon arriving at the island of the Cyclopians, Odysseus decides to enter the cave where Polyphemus resides.
In this case, Odysseus distinguishes himself as the widely celebrated Trojan War hero, instead of the old beggar he appears to be, by virtue of his great strength and skill, showing the importance of that trait to the storyline and the Greek people of that time. Odysseus' physical strength assists him in defeating many enemies, human and mythical, and is fundamental to his role and an epic
However, the tale of the Trojan Horse is possibly the most well known and exemplifies his guile in an incredible manner. In Book VIII Odysseus calls upon the bard to sing of the “Wooden Horse”; “‘But now change your theme and sing to us the stratagem of the Wooden Horse, which Epeius built with Athene’s help, and which the good Odysseus contrived to get taken one day into the citadel of Troy as an ambush, manned by the warriors who then sacked the town’”. This tale further exemplifies Odysseus’s wisdom as his ingenious plan ended the Trojan War after ten years of battle. Odysseus’s wisdom is further proved with the Cyclopes incident. Captured in Polyphemus’s cave, Odysseus and his crew are faced with almost definite death if they do not escape.
He leads his men across the sea into a battle versus the Trojans. Odysseus and his men defeated the Trojans because of his great leadership. Knowing that he cannot defeat the Trojans from outside the walls, he comes up with another idea. He makes a giant wooden horse called the Trojan horse and they show it as a sign of “peace”. The Trojans take the gift, not knowing that inside the horse was Odysseus and a few of his men.
(Homer 50) This is describing Odysseus coming up with the plan to build the trojan horse to sneak into troy and kill everyone. He also
Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, is a man that is looked at as a celebrity by humans because of his skillful fighting, and by the gods because of his intelligence and wits. The king went through numerous tasks and obstacles to get back to his homeland. One task in particular proves his power and the love he has for his loyal and wise wife, Penelope. Looking at lines four hundred fifty-one through four hundred seventy-one, the moment Odysseus, while disguised by the God Athena, proves to the suitors and workers that he is the rightful husband, king, and lord by stringing his own bow and shooting it through twelve axes; the task was quick and perfect for Odysseus.
Both Odysseus and I have shown pride. In The Odyssey, Odysseus and his men are going to fight in the Trojan War. Odysseus found a way to win the war. He and his men built a horse and Odysseus told his men to hide in the horse late at night. The next morning two of Odysseus’ men went to go talk to the Trojan’s leader.
“The Hero doesn’t Get the Reward; the Hero Pays the Price” (anon). One of the heroes who paid the dear price was Odysseus, a hero who fought in The Trojan War. Odysseus was the man who came up with the plan to build the wooden horse, ending the rigorous fight with it. Odysseus was going back home after earning the victory for his country, which he was king of one of the kingdoms -Ithaca-. But Odysseus faced trials that constrained him ten years late to arrive home.
The Trojan War was started because as seen in the myth of the golden apple, Zeus believed that there were too many people on the earth. Therefore Zeus devised a scheme that would solve this situation, with the help of Eris. They created a golden apple for the “Fairest” and gave it to Hera, Aphrodite and Athena,
The goal of the 415 BCE play, The Trojan Women was to discourage war in the ancient Mediterranean world. The play showed the hardships that came with war in an attempt to end violent conflict. The same can be said about the 1971 film. The cinematized version of the play was released amidst the peak of Vietnam protest and aimed to show, yet again, the consequences of war. The film is one of the more interesting war films because its main characters are not the soldiers, but the people affected by the loss that war brought them.
Moving on to the first piece of proof that the odyssey shows facts about the trojan war. The reason this is my essay is because in the book it gives a general place of where they are located. In fact, in 1870 a German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann found a city in the book by Homer, it was found in modern-day Turkey. Anyway, this is also here because the people of Greek used a trick to capture the city of Troy .The reason this relates to my subject is because the trojan horse is because they technically tricked someone to win the war and in a way assassinated the target they were intended for.
