Grace Peterson, the dynamic protagonist of this story, is a 20-year old lead line staffer at a group home nicknamed “Short Term 12.” After her mother died and a history of sexual abuse from her father, she landed in a group home very similar to Short Term 12. This inspired her to take care of children that faced similar neglect by their parents. This job is emotionally draining and requires strong leadership and organizational skills to provide for the children and keep them in line. This is why, according to the Matrix System True Colors Personality Test, Grace's Personality reflects the colors blue and gold. As a reflection of both of her gold and blue side, Grace’s job requires her to be a caring individual. All of the children in Short Term 12 have gone through very tough times in their lives and they need a strong support system to work through any issues that arise in their life. Grace is the person in Short Term 12 to offer support. Jack, the leader of the operation, was talking to Grace about a new …show more content…
Her blue side influences how she acts towards the children, causing her to always be there for them, even when they do not ask her to be. Mark, a 17-year-old who is almost 18, is caught with a pocket knife and is pulled aside for hitting Luis, his frenemy, on the side of the head with a baseball bat. Grace pulls him aside saying, “Look, we all know you’re turning 18 in two weeks, and I know it can be a scary transition leaving this place” (Cretton 35). Once children reach the age of 18, the state kicks them out of the group home. As Mark nears the age of 18, Grace reassures him that everything will be ok as long as his current violent behaviors do not continue. In Photo 2, the hands are arranged so one seems as if it is holding up another, displaying the comforting side to grace. As well as the hand position, the blue ambiance of the picture plays into how Grace is comforting and
The film is based on Ntozake Shange's play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf." Unlike the first play which highlighted just 7 ladies known by hues performing the accumulation of 20 poems, this movie has given each of the 20 characters names. Each of the ballads manage exceptional issues that especially affect ladies in an interesting analysis on what it intends to be a female of shading on the planet. Each of the women portray one of the characters represented in the collection of twenty poems, revealing different issues that impact women in general and women of color in particular. Every lady is represented by a color of shading: Jo Bradmore speaks to red, Tangie Adrose speaks to orange, Yasmine speaks to yellow, Juanita Sims speaks to green, Kelly Watkins speaks to blue, Nyla Adrose speaks to purple, and Crystal Wallace speaks to cocoa.
THE DIFFERENCE IS “RED”: A Dive Into The Kaona of Red Apple. Watermelon meat. Moku o Keawe. Roses.
“Between Shades of Gray” by Ruta Septys is a novel during WW2 about a Lithuanian girl named Lina that has been deported to a Siberian labor camp and must survive the hardships there. In this book, there were several powerful messages shown. The author put a huge emphasis on hope, courage, and love. In the end, I figured out the author suggests that you should never give up hope. When the NKVD were trying to force the people to sign a contract that will bind them to the farm for 25 years, Lina thinks, “It was at gunpoint that I fell into every hope and allowed myself to wish from the deepest part of my heart.

Alias Grace caught my eye because I watched another show inspired by one of Margaret Atwood’s novels, called The Handmaid 's Tale. Alias Grace is a short series about a woman murderer, Grace Marks, who is referred to as a murderess. Usually shows depict a man playing the role of a murderer, and that’s what makes this show so different from other murder mysteries. It is set in the 1850s and during this time, women were not taken seriously and their roles were mainly maids and housewives. It was such a big deal that a woman actually murdered someone, or was thought to have murdered someone anyways.
What is something that every single person in the world cherishes? What is something that people long for? The Color Purple by Alice Walker stretches the answer to that question with a series of letters between two sisters that spans forty years. A story of women joined together by love and hardship, The Color Purple depicts the value of family. But ever since it has been published, the book has gained a reputation for being inappropriate, and not suitable for schools.
Who Displays Courage? “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It 's when you know you 're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” As Harper Lee once wrote, courage is something that anybody can show, as long as you forget about if you are going to lose or win and your selfish reasons and just remember why you are doing it. In “Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes” most of the characters show courage at some point so it was difficult to pick just one person.
The Secret Lives of People The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is an interesting story that connects human lives to bees. The story takes place in 1964 during the Civil Rights Movement and fourteen year-old Lily Owens leaves her abusive father and her home in Sylvan, South Carolina to go to Tiburon with hopes to find information on her mother. Throughout the story, Lily struggles with many internal conflicts and also meets several mother figures along the way.
Sharon Olds shares an experience of different colors and what they meant to her. She narrates the opposites of two colors in particular and the ways they’re distinguished. Her and a boy are wearing two different clothing, one black and the other white, and she had come to realize the many differences in them just from glancing at him. She described the patterns complexities and how molecules work with black and white. From the beginning of the poem, we begin to see what characteristics are shown from what they’re wearing.
Her Identity began to wonder when she lost her husband, she had no idea what she wanted to do in life, but Andrew pushed her through everyday. So when he died that made Sarah realize she was on her own with their son charlie having no idea what to do. Sarahs opinion of herself changed when she thought about her affair with Lawrence, while she was married to Andrew “ i can’t raise my son with a slut for a mother.” ( Cleave 166) Sarah’s actions later made her realize that she did not just impact her identity, it also impacted many others. Finally, Sarah realized she needed change for the sake of her son, Little Bee, and herself, which made her find the true source of her
Grace has a brain injury and Rachel gets a job to take care of Grace. The thoughts of Rachel and how the change throughout the novel serves as an inner theme throughout the book. To show how a person can change through experiences. Likewise, after Rachel meets Grace all of these thoughts and ideas completely change. Alyssa Brugman wrote this
Finding fulfillment in life is something everyone struggles to achieve. In Alice Walker’s novel The Color Purple, Celie struggles with abusive relationships and expectations to be subservient. Becoming increasingly independent gives Celie an increasing amount of contentedness in her life. As she grows her feminist outlook through the encouragement of Shug and Sofia, Celie becomes more proud of herself and is able to live without worrying about her abusers. She transforms as she gains an understanding of feminism at the urging of her polar opposites.
Yes, I do believe that that Dogville is an exploration of subjective feelings and ideas. Which it all comes down to Tom and his ideas. I believe that Tom took advantage of Grace’s current need and issues for his own gain. Yes, he confessed to Grace that he was in love with her on fourth of July and she thought she felt the same way too.
I wrapped up this book "color of my words". The Color of My Words is an award winning young adult fiction book by an American writer Lynn Joseph. It was distributed in 2000 by Harpercollins. , i love this book because it is an engrossing book it had to do with Latin dancing also and that is something that i truly want to learn to do. I like this book on the grounds that there are part of sonnets in it.
“ I was made to be wild, wicked and free, to carve out my own crazy destiny, to find a place in this world where i can be the most authentic version of me”- Chirst Ann Martine. This quote by Christ describes the book the Color Purple by Alice Walker perfectly. Out of a town in Georgia the main character Celie is a poor soul that gets all of her rights stripped away from her and gets abused in every way imaginable. She has never had any control in her life and has been forced to do what her husband wants her to do. She and her sister are set in a time that racial prejudice is still very strong against all black people and hate crimes are very often.
