ABSTRACT Being in our early stage of civil engineering, the topic CONSTRUCTION OF BRIDGES is of great use and importance in our life. It is therefore necessary to understand meaning of bridges ,their basics of construction and their importance. Some important points to be looked upon are – 1. Monitoring of bridges 2. Failures 3. Machines used in construction 4. Common equipments 5. Some history about Bridges 6. Some famous bridges So attempt was made to understand these concepts through this project. Though the topic is very vast, so all minor facts and points are not possible to be covered. LIST OF CONTENTS 1. INTRODUCTION 2. TYPES OF BRIDGES 2.1 BASED ON STRUCTURE 2.1.1 BEAM BRIDGE 2.1.2 TRUSS BRIDGE 2.1.3 CANTILEVER BRIDGE 2.1.4 ARCH …show more content…
This truss is structure of connected elements forming triangular units. The connected elements (typically straight) may be stressed from tension, compression, or sometimes both in response to dynamic loads. Truss bridges are one of the oldest types of modern bridges. The basic types of truss bridges shown in this article have simple designs which could be easily analyzed by nineteenth and early twentieth century engineers. A truss bridge is economical to construct owing to its efficient use of materials. FIG:2.1.2 2.1.3CANTILEVER BRIDGE Cantilever bridges are built using cantilevers—horizontal beams supported on only one end. Most cantilever bridges use a pair of continuous spans that extend from opposite sides of the supporting piers to meet at the center of the obstacle the bridge crosses. Cantilever bridges are constructed using much the same materials & techniques as beam bridges. The difference comes in the action of the forces through the bridge. The largest cantilever bridge is the 549-metre (1,801 ft) Quebec Bridge in Quebec, Canada FIG: 2.1.3 2.1.4ARCH BRIDGE Arch bridges have abutments at each end. The weight of the bridge is thrust into the abutments at either side. The earliest known arch bridges were built by the Greeks, and include the Arkadiko …show more content…
It is being constructed by Afcons. Many experts throughout the globe, based on their versatile and relevant experience, have been involved, in order to make this project a success. National codes of India, Indian Railway Standards (IRS), Indian Road Congress (IRC) and Indian Standards (IS) have been supplemented with International standards; British Standards (BS), International Union of Railways (UIC) and Euro, as national codes, were found inadequate for such large spans. The Quality aspect has been emphasized, as the quantum of fabrication and welding is colossal. Mostly indigenous material has been planned to be used, whereas for the design, international codes have been referred, which means the Quality Control work is still
Texas Roadhouse is an all American restaurant that serves a variety of delicious dishes. Texas Roadhouse is by far the best restaurant in Columbus, Indiana due to it’s environment, delicious mid-priced meals, and the hospitality of employees. The first thing that attracts customers to a restaurant is the appearance and environment of that restaurant. Texas Roadhouse is a western-style restaurant that is perfect for any lunch or dinner. The environment is friendly and extremely energetic.
Upper Mustang Trek Upper Mustang Trek is a 12-day moderate trip towards a desert valley 86 km northwest of Jomsom Airport behind the Mount Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Lo Manthang (3730 m) is an alpine village of Mustang District with ancient Buddhist culture, tradition, food habit, and dress similarly with Tibet. The Lo Manthang hiking begins with Pokhara-Jomsom flight (18 minutes). The restricted area has preserved the 22nd cultural king whose history dated back to the 14th century. Kagbeni (2800 m) is a village with ACAP Check Post, situated bank of the Kali Gandaki River with Nilgiri View.
Jeff was on a mission. His mission was to gather information on the evasive rouge colonel that went by the name of Bonge Stoof. Bonge Stoof was a name that struck fear into many of the citizens of the thirteen colonies. He was known for being brutal with his prisoners, ravaging houses of innocent people, and killing his own country men. He and his squad of men were getting more and bolder in their attempts of taking down the thirteen colonies and had recently blown up a shipment of gunpowder.
Bridgewater, Va. – The Treasury Department announced on Wednesday April 20th, abolitionist, and anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman is to replace the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. This is a mark in history because she will not only be the first African-American to appear on United States paper currency, but also the first woman in over a century. The original plan was to have a woman replace founding father Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill. But that plan was revoked according to Jacob Lew, the Treasury Secretary, when the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical portraying Hamilton’s life gained a lot of support, as reported by USA Today.
Anyway, upon reaching the clearing where the house is located it became abundantly clear to Lloyd that Emil does not like whoever he was talking to. The man is wearing a black uniform with white pinstriping on the collar, cuffs, and shoulder boards; the shoulder boards had three gold stars on them marking him as a high ranking member of whatever military he was part of, along with the three stars there is also two other military patches on the shoulder boards, one Lloyd vaguely recognized as a Prussian patch; not one the Prussian military themselves would wear but, rather marking him and those under him having been trained by the Prussian military and, marking them as having the Prussia’s support. The last patch was all too familiar to Lloyd, it is in the design that Lloyd himself had created when he first started the Rebellion Army, by the look of the man in front of him; along with what little news that he got so far out in the middle of nowhere; Lloyd could tell that his once small Rebellion Army has become a full out military with an unknown but most certainly large force in each branch.
Ruby Bridges was the first African American student to appear at an all white school in the South at the age of six. Ruby paved the way for all black kids to integrate with white kids. Bridges grew up in a small town called Tylertown, Mississippi, and at the age of four her family moved to New Orleans. She had three younger siblings whom meant the world to her. Life for Ruby was not always exceptional, but for her family she made it acceptable.
The Incas used the bridges to cross waterways or large chasms. “Some of these bridges were cables hung from masonry towers for support. Other bridges were made of wood, stone, and floating reeds.” The bridges were unique in that they displayed the wide range of advanced Incan architecture. They could build rope bridges if they needed to cross something high up.
In New York City the decade of the 1920s was a prosperous and carefree time for many people that featured an economic boom in regards to automobiles, radios, and telephones. It was a decade of change for many reasons and for Fernand Leger it was a decade of demobilization with the theme of the city. Leger used this time to focus on the city and make it the inspiration for his new line of paintings. He wanted people to embrace the industrial time and using it in his paintings gave the topic emphasis. In Fernand Legers painting, The Bridge of the Tug, he uses sharp, simple shapes to depict his view of New York in a way that is chaotic and machine like in order to encourage society to embrace the new industrial era.
From the first truss bridge, engineers experimented with different forms of truss bridges trying to find better shape and the one that will suit them for the particular problems. Because of that we have today many forms of truss bridges. Truss bridge can have deck (roadbed) on top (deck truss), in the middle (through truss), or at the bottom of the truss. If the sides of the truss extend above the roadbed but are not connected, it is called a pony truss or half-through truss.
At just six years old, Ruby Bridges was soon to play a significant role in American history. Breaking through the racist segregation of school children, and becoming the first child of color to attend an all-white elementary school in the American South. Bridges' was born on the 8th of September, 1954, in the poverty ridden town of Tylertown, Mississippi. Ironically this was the year that the US Supreme Courts 'Brown v. the Board of Education' decided to make an attempt at ending racial segregation in public schools across the country. At four years old, Ruby and her parents moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in search of a better life.
Ruby Bridges was born on September 8,1954 in Tylertown , Mississippi when Ruby was 4 years old her and parents Abon and Lucille Bridges, moved to New Orleans for a better lifestyles in a big city. Her father had a job as a gas station Attendant her mother had night jobs to support their growing family. Ruby soon had Two younger brothers and a younger sister. It just happened to be that Ruby was born the same year as Brown v. Board of Education. When she was is kindergarten
“World is not designed by science, but by art in spite of some pretence and humbug to the contrary. I do not mean to suggest that engineering can do without science, on the contrary, it stands on scientific foundations, but there is a big gap between scientific research and the engineering product which has to be bridged by the art of the engineer” I still remember the day I witnessed the scaled models of famous civil structures in the annual science and technology festival of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, 6 years ago. Its mammoth machinery and structures interested me a lot. I think that the best way to foretell the future is to work for it. With this understanding, I always framed and rendered my life towards predetermined goals.
The leading international developer of codes and standards connected with art, sciences, and practice of mechanical engineers is the American Society of mechanical engineers. As of today ASME’s codes and standards have grown up to nearly 600 offerings in print. Every year ASME develop and revise codes and standards with the help of 4,700 willing volunteers which consist of engineers, scientists, and government officials. Contribute their technical expertise to protect the safety of the public. ASME develops and revises standards that enhance the public safety, health, and quality of life.
An introduction to highway building: Although there are many methods to constructing a road, all are based on the principle that geographical objects are removed and replaced with harder and more wear-resistant materials. The pre-existing rock and earth is removed by digging or explosions. Tunnels, embankments and bridge are then added when necessary. The material that the road is being constructed from is then laid by various pieces of equipment, which will be looked at in greater detail in this assignment. The construction management of roads has become increasingly more difficult as larger structures are constantly being required in increasingly short amounts of time.
