America, known as “the land of the free and the home of the brave,” is a country recognized for it’s freedom and rights. As a country, at almost every turn, America has shown it’s responsibility and priority towards it citizens. Specifically, with the opportunity to vote. Being able to vote for presidents, senators, and governors is a very strong right that Americans hold in their hand and for many others in neighboring countries, this can be a sheer dream. Recently, Ohio passed a new law, stating that citizens who did not regularly vote for four years and were unresponsive to any kind of sent notice, would be removed from voting rolls; therefore, the name, “Use it or Lose it.” This is unconstitutional and should not only be revoked, but a new program should be enacted to address certain issues that were addressed under this “purging” law.
This law needs to have a public policy solution because voting is a public and basic right towards every American citizen. By restricting this, indirectly, citizens are denied from their fundamental right. The government should take action to review and remove this piece of Ohio legislation as it goes against the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution gives citizens the

According to the Pew Center for the States, a study conducted found that 1.8 million dead people were still registered as active voters and 2.75 million people were registered in more than one state. The objective behind this law was to take inactive people who had either moved or passed away off the voting rolls and “clean it out.” Even though these are legitimate problems that need to be addressed, suppressing the general public’s ability to vote is not the answer. And while this may a more direct approach to addressing the problem, there can still be alternative solutions to these
Voter ID laws are two sided, but most Americans feel that it is necessary to prevent voter fraud. Republicans feel that an individual should already have a state ID because this is required by so many government agencies. Unfortunately, the Democrats are the ones to be most likely affected due to their voters’ economic status, disabilities and age. Whereas, Democrats believe that it is a tactic to defer their supporters from voting.
Recently, state-issued photo ID has been required in order vote since the law passed in the Texas legislature. This law has caused controversy as it brings up the question over the state’s power in the regulation of elections. “While pending review within the judicial system, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its opinion in Shelby County v. Holder, which effectively ended all pending litigation. As a result, voters are now required to present an approved form of photo identification in order to vote in all Texas Elections” (votetexas.gov). The U.S. Supreme Court struck down on Section 4(b) of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in the Shelby County v. Holder case.
Concept: The Importance of Voting Article: “Patriot Connectors to Discuss Importance of Voting” My article began by introducing a group named the Patriot Connectors, and the entirety of the article expressed the group 's views on why people should vote and exactly how important voting is to American society. The group states that not voting or not even being registered to vote in essence, undermines America 's representative democracy. They attribute the lack of voters being related to the fact that many feel that their votes do not matter in a government system they see as unfair or rigged. The article relays the fact that voting is something citizens learn to do.
I believe that Americans should be required to vote. Compulsory voting allows everyone to have a say about who they think is fit in the government. It allows the polls to be more accurate and the number of votes increase. Required voting allows those who can 't or don 't have time to make it the day or time off work. Requiring people to vote is like a boss requiring his employees to get to work on time, it 's short and easy but also important and effective.
This method depending on the district you live in can affect your vote in numerous ways. In some instances, your vote is diluted based on the district you reside in,this creates a disparity where one vote weighs more than another. Sue Evenwel’s suggests that the Citizens Voting Age Population, if the justices of the court vote in favor of it would filter out the total population. Meaning it would exclude non-citizens and those not of voting age be eligible
"A vote is like a rifle it depends on the character of the user". said by Theodore Roosevelt. I believe that everyone should ‘vote in America, It would determine a better President, There would be less argument throughout the country, And the voting in America would improve a lot. The most people that are not happy about their President is the ones that don 't vote. 76% of people vote in the USA. Everyone should vote in America "If everybody in this country voted” the economist John Kenneth Galbraith said, “the Democrats would be in for the next 100 years”.
I always wondered why I was allowed to take time off work for Jury Duty but not for voting as each is a constitutional right. I also believe in making incentives for poll workers to increase poll locations, poll observers, and even shuttle services since districts are so small. Educating the public about voting is most important and there should be more nonpartisan organizations to help get people registered. Same day voting should be allowed along with early voting and absantee ballots. I disagree whole heartedly with current event/literacy tests and financial rewards as both have already been
In the everyone was eligble to vote because immigrants had driver’s licenses. By having this law or rule implemented to vote, the undocumented immigrants won’t have a chance to even vote which they genuinely might want to. Not only is this going to leave one less vote, but there are a million undocumented immigrants so by having this we are missing that many votes. This will leave the party who doesn’t like immigrants more chance to win since undocumented immigrants can’t vote and elect the candidate who will want change and will reform this law. The DMV also states the requirements it needs in order for you to vote “Many state agencies provide voter registration services.
This unfamiliarity and thought of the process being confusing deters the younger people from registering to vote in the first place. By removing this process, voters can just show up to cast their votes and move on with their day without worrying about this potentially confusing process. These three methods combined could increase the voter turnout for each
Keeping disenfranchisement laws not only allowing African Americans males or females not to vote, but the laws are also keeping the non- African American males or females from voting ( “State’s Laws Felons Prevent 1.4 Million Black Men From Voting In The U.S.: Report.”
The Detrimental Effects of Photo Voter Regulations Voting is an important process to democracy and the American people. It allows American citizens to put who they want into office and to vote on amendments and state laws. Voting is also considered a right in the country and a freedom that we should always have, regardless of financial situation and race. Some states, however, have begun to introduce new voting laws into their state requiring the voter to have photo identification to vote.
“ While compulsion of any kind is a restriction, so is the compulsion to drive only on the right side of the road.” ( “Is It Time To Consider Mandatory Voting Laws? Worsening Voting Statistics Make a Strong Case.” by John W. Dean.) One way voter turnout can increase is by compulsory (required) voting.
No longer should we stand for this we have to insure that votes are actually making a difference in our country. What is the point not voting if we are just ignored and tossed aside? The Electoral College is the sole reason why some people just do not care about voting, because they feel like they don't make a difference in the matter, and that is correct in some degree because the Electoral College makes it that
However, one of the key characteristics of a healthy democracy is a high voter-turnout. If people do not turn up on Election Day, it is likely that they do not see the point of holding elections or the conditions are not suitable for them to vote. People vote because they believe that their vote has the power to make changes in the country. Voter apathy often develops when voters do not see voting as a way of voicing their concerns. America therefore continues to tread on risky ground, if a way of increasing voter turnout is not found.
Throughout the recent years the majority of the able voting population are exercising their privilege to vote. Even during the presidential elections the voter turnout rate was 50% or less than that. The act of voting should be a personal responsibility of every citizen meaning it should be a obligation. But to specify on this statement, it should not lawfully required to vote because people also have the right not to vote too (and it would be weakening personal liberties) , but it should be a personal responsibility for citizens if they are to complain about how the government run rather than every citizen. A personal responsibility is when we are the cause of our own actions.
