In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, this is one of the things on many people's minds throughout the whole Play. Macbeth is a tragic play and like most does not have a happy ending. During this play, there are three Witches that tell Macbeth that he is the Thane of Glamis, the Thane of Cawdor, and he will become the King of Scotland. He says he doesn’t believe the Witches because he is not the Thane of Cawdor or Glamis, there is no way they can see into the future, and there is no way he is going to become King. This all changes when he finds out that the Thane of Cawdor died and he is now the Thane of Cawdor and Glamis. She knows just what she has to do to guarantee that if the King were to get killed that Macbeth would be the one to get the throne. "Lady Macbeth encourages her husband to seize the power of requisite to ruthless patrilineal order."(Alfar 182). Killing all of King Duncans' heirs was one thing she knew she had to be done to guarantee Macbeth would be the next person in line for the throne. Lady Macbeth was a strong woman that when she had her mind set on something she was going to do whatever it took to do it without hesitation. She knew that she couldn’t be the one who did the killing, so she had to get Macbeth to do all the dirty work. “Glamis thou art, and Cawdor, and shalt be what thou art promised.” (1.5.15-16). Lady Macbeth says this to Macbeth telling him that he is the Thane of Cawdor and Glamis and that he will become king as he was promised, also making an obvious point that she wants to be
Macbeth: The One Who Wants to Be in Control During Act II, Lady Macbeth is in control of Macbeth because she is stronger and more reliable than Macbeth at this moment in the play. Throughout the play Lady Macbeth tries to find every way possible to take control from Macbeth so that she can make her own rules. This also happens in real life to when Ilse Koch married her husband and worked with him at a Concentration Camp. As she was working with him she tried taking control and killing the people for what their appearance was. During war some people that you find try to take control over others so that they could make their own rules.

The first key event where control features in a significant way is the witches' prophecies. They tell Macbeth that he will become Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland which establishes the importance of fate. Shakespeare conveys the witches as agents of evil that are deceptive and dangerous, "oftentimes to win us to our harm/the instruments of darkness tell us truths," showing that they use truth itself to influence a horrible outcome (Macbeth's tragic demise.) It all starts off with her wanting to take order of what her husband needs to achieve. She claims to want to take her weakness away while being a woman as she speaks on the murder of Duncan. “Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty!” Lady Macbeth is bold and fierce in what she takes authority over. Macbeth follows along Lady Macbeths plan when declaring the murder of Duncan.
She conjures a plan to murder King Duncan. Yet she herself cannot do the killing for Duncan looks like her father while he slept. So she orders Macbeth to complete the task. Macbeth does not feel killing Duncan is right and denies until he begins to become greedy and desperate. He ends up complying with his wife and kills King Duncan.
After hearing and believing what the witches had to say, Lady Macbeth tries to convince Macbeth to kill king Duncan. However at first, Lady Macbeth tries to make Macbeth the king by handling the situation herself. She says to her husband,”This night’s great business into my dispatch, Which shall to all our nights and days to come Give solely sovereign sway and masterdom” (1.5.. Control is shown as an important factor in Lady Macbeth and Macbeth 's relationship. Although they view each other as equals,"my dearest partner of greatness," it 's Lady Macbeth who is established as the dominant partner in the dynamic, inverting typical 17th century gender and social roles. (Since husbands were supposed to rule their wives in the same way that kings ruled countries, Lady Macbeth 's plan is just another version of treason: taking power that doesn 't belong to you.) Upon reading the letter, she worries that Macbeth is too kind-natured to be able to take the crown and is determined to assist him through the,"valour of my tongue. "
Therefore, she could be the one to kill Duncan and take over the power all on her own. In her “unsex me here” speech she explains how she wants “spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, [to] unsex [her] here, and fill [her] from the crown to the toe topful of direst cruelty” (I.v.l 33). She is very determined to kill the king as it will increase the Macbeths social status. Macbeth kills King Duncan which leads him and Lady Macbeth to believe that they conquer all and will not be disappointed in their accomplishment of murdering Duncan.
Lady Macbeth plans to invite king Duncan over for dinner, but really she is convincing Macbeth to murder him. She influences him to kill Duncan because he is the only one standing in the way of Macbeth becoming king. Lady Macbeth plans the killing but convinces Macbeth to do the dirty deed. Lastly, Lady Macbeth is one of the causes of Macbeth’s failure because she repeatedly questions Macbeth’s manhood until she persuades him to make a bad choice. “When you durst do it then you were a man” (1.7.53-58).
but she planned to murder him, she says “When in swinish sleep Their drenched natures lies as in a death” (1.7.77-78). Her plan was to drug the guard’s with wine so they will pass out and then Macbeth could walk right passed them to king Duncan’s room to kill him. She also admits to the crime when she says “That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold” (2.2.1-2).
At the start of the play, Macbeth visits the witches with Banquo at the closing of the battle. The witches speak to Macbeth and Banquo and get the idea of a prophecy in Macbeth’s mind. “All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Glamis./ All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor./ All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter” (1.3.46-48). When the witches get the prophecy in Macbeth’s mind, he believes it will come true and misunderstands the prophecy of the witches. Although the witches make Macbeth believe in the prophecy of becoming the King, Macbeth is responsible for his downfall because they do not recommend Macbeth to kill Duncan.
How Much of Life can we Control Some people believe that they can take control of their lives and and create their own destiny, while others believe there is a natural force that decides what our destiny will be. In the texts Macbeth and The Iraq War Blog, authors Shakespeare and Faiza Al-Alajir present the theme of not having control over one's destiny, through tragedy and history. The author of Macbeth, Shakespeare believes that people do not have total control in their lives.
As soon as she heard Macbeth’s prophecy, she was willing to do anything to get him into the position of king. She was even willing to aid in the murder of innocent people who stood in the way of Macbeth’s ascension to the crown like, King Duncan. Her greed led to Macbeth’s downfall. When Macbeth stated that he was questioning his intentions to kill the king, she pushed him and assisted in the plotting. “We will proceed no further in this business. /
With these words of Lady Macbeth, it seems that she has no sympathy towards the king. All her unpleasant thoughts have taken over her mind and all that she wants is to become queen of Scotland. The goal is to get rid of the king. In the cause of Macbeth telling Lady Macbeth about what the witched told him. It turned her insane with the idea that he will be ruler of Scotland.
She wanted the title of being queen and King Duncan was in her way of that, so she got into Macbeth’s head. Macbeth was reluctant at first, which also shows that he is not wholly evil. William Shakespeare’s Macbeth begins with three witches, who discuss their upcoming meeting with Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis. Later on, Macbeth and Banquo, a general, meet the witches, and they tell Macbeth that he will be Thane of Cawdor and eventually become King of Scotland. They also tell Banquo that his sons will be future kings. Macbeth however has no knowledge that King Duncan had already promoted him to Thane of Cawdor, so when he finally hears of this news, he believes that the witches’ prophecy is coming true.
