Without the Mexican-American war, would people living on most of the West Coast be living in Mexico or the U.S? In 1846 through 1848 Mexico and the United States were at war. James Polk was the President at the time. Was war with the U.S and Mexico justified? The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Texas had already gain independence, Manifest Destiny, and Texas becoming a state. One reason the Mexican War was justified was Texas had already declared independence. Texas was no longer apart of the Mexican territory.
