Even though all the children were homeless, “vagrant” only describes the children who are not as light as the girl is. Rather than describing the girl’s hair as blonde, which typically is a trait of fair-skinned people, her hair is the “brightest living gold,” which makes her more beautiful than the rest due to her lighter features according to the plot. Furthermore, she has a “crown of distinction” that sets her apart, which shows her white privilege since she is chosen solely for her lighter skin, especially since, she wears the same exact thing as the
Therefore, it is vital for Sophia to adjust to life after her dad and acknowledge the memories Sophia had with Victor. Lenore and Joseph Lenore avoids talking to Isabella because Lenore does not want to listen to Isabella speak about Victor. Like Sophia, Lenore seems to be in shock by Victor’s death (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). Lenore appears unaffected by consuming Lenore’s time with motherly and wifely
Later in the novel, the creature gets angry at Victor as he did not finish or made a female creature for him. The creature wanted someone to be with so that they can make a family. “You have destroyed the work you have begun; what is it that you intend? Do you dare to break your promise?”(172). This conveys the theme, the fact that it made the creature angry that his female creature was destroyed.
Using this quote the author can take the conflict in it to prove the theme by showing that Victor lying and trying to impress Teresa got him trouble by
Mary Shelly’s purpose in this passage is to displays the sorrow and dismay that Victor Frankenstein experiences when his mother passed away because of the scarlet fever. The reminiscent melancholy tone of the passage was established through the author’s use of diction. Because of the death of his mother, Victor felt “despair” and the damage that has done to his emotion is an “irreparable evil.” These words convey that this is the first time Victor experience the grief of losing someone that is so dear to him and he have yet to know how to cope with it. Because of this, he is lost within his mind as his mind drift to the memories that he had with his mother.
Victor is tormented by the creatures ambition and this leaves Victor a void of his former self, subject to anything he puts his mind to and it is this form of himself that leads him ever so closer to the end of his days. Left a hollowed out version of himself, Victor is unable to cope with the loss of all of his friends and family through the hands of his own creation and seeks to right all of his
There is also the concept of the balance of masculinity and feminity throughout the novel. Victor, although he is a male character, displays a need to create something and care for it, even if it is to fill some sort of abstract ‘debt’ he feels towards his parents and Elizabeth, and he inevitably ends up abandoning his creation. Victor’s desire to create a living being, despite the way he treated after its birth, is a trait that one typically associates with
Further, this loss of family and friends causes Victor to lose his attachment to the world. Secrecy ultimately brings about his inability to save himself. In this paragraph I will show

In the story, the protagonist Winifred explains about her past experiences with her elder brother Zachary from her early years of admiration to her later years facing the similar circumstances of her brother with her youngest daughter Stephanie. During her younger years, Winifred admired her eldest brother and appeared as an obedient slave to him. Later on, however, she then faces with the disillusionment as her brother’s habits are warped to extreme measures such as smoking and drinking which later accumulates to the sorrow that she and her family faced from losing their youngest daughter Lizzie to leukemia. The death also strikes a permanent blow on Zachary, who later leaves the family due to his strained relationship with his
When Victor creates the creature he also abandons it. Once Frankenstein’s creature begins to murder off his family thus he begins’ to realize the importance of family. Caroline’s death contributes to Victor’s isolated nature.
Victor made the creature himself and abandoned it as a newborn because he made the creature ‘too ugly’ for anyone to support, including himself. This positions the reader to see Victor as selfish and cowardly, because of society’s knowledge of the importance of parents in a person’s life. Especially on how absent parents, severely impact a child’s upbringing. How many people do you know that have an absent parent? We feel for the creature as we know how important our parents are or have even experienced something similar to the creature.
He shapes the novel’s plot by his want for revenge caused by the abandonment of Victor and the feeling of being
Because of this, Elizabeth had to play all feminine roles towards Victor: mother figure, sister, and wife. While Elizabeth becomes like a mother, Victor had already formed a friendly bond with her. Victor describes Elizabeth as “gentile and affectionate” (20), motherly characteristics, but Victor would never be able to see Elizabeth as a mother. Elizabeth and Victor had grown up together since the age of four. She was the only one who could make him forget his troubles, and he was the only one who could console her after the death of William and Justine.
These actions show more responsibility than before, but still not full responsibility. As a result, even more catastrophe is brought upon Victor: Elizabeth dies, and Victor’s father dies. These deaths show how Victor isn’t yet living up to Mary Shelley’s standards for a responsible
To make Victor experience the feeling isolation, the creature sets out to destroy what he hold most dear, Elizabeth. Victor describes his spouse as the “body of Elizabeth, my love, my wife, so lately living, so dear, so worthy.” Nowhere else in the novel does Victor come even close to describing another human in this manner. Once the monster escaped, Victor realized how important it was to be near people he loved, he had learned the terrors of isolation. The creature then uses this against him by killing the person who brought Victor out of isolation, pushing him back into an even deeper sense of isolation from which Victor
