Abortion is a “medical procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause the death of the fetus”.
Abortion Still remains one of the most controversial topics surrounding people. Till today people are divided and haven’t reached a solution if abortion is moral or not. Not to mention that women used to obtain abortion from thousands of years. Few states don’t allow women to obtain abortion; some allow it under certain circumstances, and some allow it simply by request. people argue that Abortion is wrong because it’s a murder and that unborn babies have the right to live. One of the main reasons is that Abortion prevents the unborn child from his future life. According to Don Marquis, a professor of philosophy at the university of Kansas,” The claim that the primary wrong-making feature of a killing is the loss to the victim of the value of its future has obvious consequences for the ethics of abortion.” This statement highlights that what one of the main features that makes killing a person wrong is that it deprives and prevents the victim from his future. “What primarily makes killing wrong……. The loss of one’s life deprives one of all the experiences, activities, projects, and enjoyments which would otherwise have constituted one’s future (4).” We all of course know that fetuses that still didn’t come out to life are highly likely to live and experience their future like human beings do. This of course questions why is it acceptable to kill fetuses and not acceptable to kill adults for example. “The future of a standard fetus includes a set of experiences, projects, activities, and such which are identical with the futures of adult human beings and are identical with the futures of young children (5)”. This has been proven by many peer-reviewed studies around the world. Willy Pederson, a professor in the department of Sociology and Human Geography in university of Oslo, concluded in his “Scandinavian journal of public health” that “young adult women who undergo induced abortion may be at increased risk for subsequent depression (424)”. The aim of this study was to examine that obtaining abortion was a risk factor of causing depression. This study was made in Norway and its methods were doing a survey that had questions concerning abortion, giving birth, family relationships, occupational history and conduct problems. The study’s statistics showed “the most important finding in this study is the higher prevalence of depression among young adult women who have had an abortion (427)”. This wasn’t the only study who has concluded this issue. A peer reviewed study made by BMC medicine which investigated the same matter in Norway.
