Abortion is a “medical procedure used to end a pregnancy and cause the death of the fetus”.
Abortion Still remains one of the most controversial topics surrounding people. Till today people are divided and haven’t reached a solution if abortion is moral or not. Not to mention that women used to obtain abortion from thousands of years. Few states don’t allow women to obtain abortion; some allow it under certain circumstances, and some allow it simply by request. people argue that Abortion is wrong because it’s a murder and that unborn babies have the right to live. Others argue that preventing abortion is a violation of the women’s rights and that women have the right to have control over their own bodies; therefore, it is moral for the

One of the main reasons is that Abortion prevents the unborn child from his future life. According to Don Marquis, a professor of philosophy at the university of Kansas,” The claim that the primary wrong-making feature of a killing is the loss to the victim of the value of its future has obvious consequences for the ethics of abortion.” This statement highlights that what one of the main features that makes killing a person wrong is that it deprives and prevents the victim from his future. “What primarily makes killing wrong……. The loss of one’s life deprives one of all the experiences, activities, projects, and enjoyments which would otherwise have constituted one’s future (4).” We all of course know that fetuses that still didn’t come out to life are highly likely to live and experience their future like human beings do. This of course questions why is it acceptable to kill fetuses and not acceptable to kill adults for example. “The future of a standard fetus includes a set of experiences, projects, activities, and such which are identical with the futures of adult human beings and are identical with the futures of young children (5)”. What Marquis is trying to show here is that both fetuses and born human beings are classified the same at that point. “Since the reason that is sufficient to explain why it is wrong to kill human beings after the time of birth is a …show more content…
This has been proven by many peer-reviewed studies around the world. Willy Pederson, a professor in the department of Sociology and Human Geography in university of Oslo, concluded in his “Scandinavian journal of public health” that “young adult women who undergo induced abortion may be at increased risk for subsequent depression (424)”. The aim of this study was to examine that obtaining abortion was a risk factor of causing depression. This study was made in Norway and its methods were doing a survey that had questions concerning abortion, giving birth, family relationships, occupational history and conduct problems. The study’s statistics showed “the most important finding in this study is the higher prevalence of depression among young adult women who have had an abortion (427)”. This wasn’t the only study who has concluded this issue. A peer reviewed study made by BMC medicine which investigated the same matter in Norway. By doing a IES, which is a “psychological trauma test that measures the women’s extent of intrusive thoughts, feelings and flashbacks about the pregnancy termination
In the article “The Bad Mother: Stigma, Abortion and Surrogacy”, a statement claim that “in the United States, about one-third of women will have an abortion over the course of their lifetimes” (Abrams). In “When Is An Abortion Not An Abortion?” Mutcherson noted “in 2011, over one million abortions were performed in the United States” (207). Without abortion as an option, who knows what would’ve happened to them. Women who carry out an unwanted pregnancy are often at risk of depression and committing suicide.
Due to the child not even being born, and not knowing anything people would see this as the most innocent killing, as well as them being the most helpless due to them being in the womb of a women. Abortion is also seen as one of the most frequent death’s with approximately 120,000 pre-born children a year are aborted. Lastly, Political issues/concerns, there are always two sides to a story and for abortion there is one side where they say women are not entitled to ending an unborn child’s life, and on the other side there are people saying that women have the right since is it their own body. With this it can create lots of conflict due to the mixed results in this case it leads to many lobbying
First, an opponent may bring about the argument that there is no such thing as the right to someone’s body to begin with, thus rendering the notion that the fetus has no right to the mother’s body irrelevant. They may claim, rather, that the argument has nothing to do with a right to use the mother’s body and everything to do with the relative strengths of the right to life and the right to self control. If the right to life is one that never wavers (unless you intentionally hurt someone, which a fetus is incapable of), then the permissibility of abortion depends on the woman’s right to self control. If a woman is assaulted, then of course she never gave up her right to self control, and that right outweighs the fetus’s right to life. However, one may argue, if a woman engages in consensual sex she is sacrificing some of her right to self control, and a resulting fetus has a right to life stronger than this now reduced right to self control.
Women have reported severe depression and suicidal thoughts and attempts. Researchers from the University of California in San Francisco have found that women who are denied abortions fare significantly less well than those who did receive abortions (Geier, par. 3). The same researchers concluded that women denied abortions are much more likely to need public financial assistance, and have a household income below poverty level. (Geier, par. 9). The American Psychological Association (APA) review found that severe negative psychological reactions to abortion are rare and that the vast majority of women experience a mixture of emotions after an abortion, with positive feelings predominating (NARAL
The first reason why it is wrong is it is murder because you are killing a living human maybe its not born yet but it is still alive. Kyle Waltman states in the article “ Pro-Life: Abortion Controversy, “Scientists and doctors have used their imperfect judgements to establish the thresholds that vary by state between legally aborting a fetus and illegally murdering a baby in such a way that the murdering of a pregnant woman results in a trial for two separate counts for murder...” In other words, it is ok for a mother to kill her baby that is not born yet and does not get trial but if the woman also gets killed illegally he get trial and goes to jail. This shows that is is the same action being done except with the woman also being murdered.. In addition, in a
This would also have an effect on people 's interpersonal relationships. This could cause conflict and arguments between partners as they are forced to make the tough decision of abortion. They both will be experiencing feelings of guilt and regret and this could put a lot of strain on their relationships. A study that 's been done suggests that there is a 70% chance of relationship breakdowns within the first twelve months following the abortion. This figure increases with unmarried couples.
The debate whether abortion is morally permissible or not permissible is commonly discussed between the considerations of the status of a fetus and ones virtue theory. A widely recognized theory of pro-choice advocates can be thought to be that their ethical view is that fetus’s merely are not humans because they lack the right to life since they believe a fetus does not obtain any sort of mental functions or capability of feelings. Although this may be true in some cases it is not in all so explaining the wrongness of killing, between the common debates whether a fetus does or does not obtain human hood, should be illustrated in a way of a virtuous theory. The wrongness of killing is explained by what the person or fetus is deprived of, such as their right to life; not by means of a heart beat or function of one’s body, but by the fact that it takes their ability of potentially growing into a person to have the same human characteristics as we do.
No one has the right to kill others for the sake personal gain. Again, it is not considered good at all. In contrast, a clear manner it is called “murder”. The reason is that child in the womb of a mother is considered as a life. The child in womb has his/her existence in the world.
For example, if there is a complication in pregnancy and the mother can suffer because of the child, I think it is ok to do abortion. It is important to understand the various ideas that go behind abortion. The right of an abortion for a mother should be left on her own decision as the mother knows best about her condition. She is going to be the 'host body ' for the baby, even though her own, for nine months and according to Thompson, the mother should have the right to decide if she wants to foster and go through with the ordeal. But still, there are also a strong debate going on about the human rights of the child:
A second reason why abortion is wrong is because it deprives the fetus from his future. When we decide to kill a fetus then we are taking away from him a future like ours. The argument is as follows : (1) it is impermissible to kill humans, who if lived, would have a future like ours, (2) if abortion is not done, the fetus would have future as we do have, (3) so it is wrong to kill the fetus (4) therefore abortion is impermissible. A similar argument was given by Don Marquis in his article “Why Abortion is Immoral”. He stated that what makes killing wrong is neither the effect on the murder, nor the effect on the victim’s relatives or friends, but the effect is on the victim himself.
Abortion Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by abolishing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. Abortion is a very controversial topic, for example, one side of this topic believes abortion is cruel and committing murder, while the other side believes that since the fetus or embryo isn 't developed enough to be considered a living human being yet, that abortion is not commiting murder. Despite this information, there is a lot more to abortion than the opinion of it being “right” or “wrong”. According to “Students for life” who are pro life, about 1 million abortions are executed each year in the US. That data adds up to 22% of pregnancies ending in abortion.
Also, God does not desire for his people to decrease those who are in his image. On the practical side of the pro-life argument, according to philosopher Erica Bachiochi, abortions harm women. There have been studies that show women who have had abortions have an increased rate of anxiety, depression and suicide rate. Also, the abortion can cause complications with future births if there are any. There are
Abortion and childbirth complications have been the leading causes of maternal deaths the world over. With the advent of the 21st century, maternal deaths have declined. This has been attributed to education on family planning as well as the use of contraceptives. Abortion is caused by a myriad of factors among them
Never mind the morality of abortion, even the health risks are unbelievable. When a woman receives an abortion she runs a 65 percent higher risk of clinical depression and 160 percent more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric treatment. Abortions create more complications than going full term with a
An Argument that Abortion is wrong To talk about abortion is a very difficult topic because everyone is playing God. When I refer to everyone that means, politics, philosophers, and religions. I found three very important points of view about abortion. First, the extreme conservative view (held by the Catholic Church); second, the extreme liberal view (held by Singer); and third, the moderate views, which lie between both extremes. Some opponents (anti-abortionists, pro-life activists).
