Recently, UAEC caused me to have to reevaluate my time and study habits. Yes, I am a dedicated student who studies daily, but I recently learned that as an Early College Student, my everyday study habits aren’t disciplined enough. I am now being given additional assignments with higher expectations that require me to balance my schedule. Early College is something that requires self-motivation and dedication. While completing the 24- Hour Time Tracking Activity, I began examining my time usage as well as my study habits. I soon learned that I actually spend more time than I give myself credit for towards my academics. I also realized that my problem isn’t laziness, but rather inconsistency. Inconsistency and lack of knowing how to balance my time often result in a “burnout.” I have a tendency to focus more on quantity of assignments I can complete instead of the quality of my work. While attending community college I had to work two jobs to pay for school in addition to going to school full time, at some points working consecutive weeks without any days off. With my mom being laid off while I was in college and financial aid unavailable, I had to find a way to fund my education. This experience not only enhanced my time management skills but also gave me a greater appreciation for education. Time management is a key skill I have learned and have had to apply in my life due to the time commitments I have outside of academics. Currently I am a member of Air Force ROTC, both the Vice President and a participant on the University of Washington boxing team, and I work part-time while going to school full-time.
