The United States should return Mexico’s lost territory
Unhesitatingly expanding its regions to the west, the United States was motivated by the idea of “Manifest Destiny” that the extension of the United States all through the American continent was unavoidable and justified. It was believed firmly by the people in United States that the United States would have endless possibilities and unlimited potentials becoming a developed country. In the same time, Mexico could not control over the vast lands it had acquired from Spain and suffered from the profound interior political divisions. The war burst between them during 1846-1848. Without any doubts, the United States should return Mexico’s

The United States got a lot of main important lands from Mexico and used them as its continental power. Mexico lost almost half of its land and the United States gained a lot of lands from Mexico where is the present American Southwest from Texas to California. However, the United States was not justified in taking half of Mexico’s territory in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas is the Mexican left statesman. In his opinion, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo abuses fundamental global legal standards. There were also many important articles that supported his idea such as “those dealing with citizenship, property and the security of 100,000 Mexicans who remained on what became American territory”.
People should remember the true history of the U.S.-Mexian War. It led toward a question that “to what extend of the historic prosperity of the United States of America stems from the development of territories originally inhabited by Mexicans and ripped away from Mexico through an invasion and a war of territorial

Like any other wars, the U.S.- Mexican War was “fundamentally about violence — a violence that did not end once the war or the military phase of the war ended”. The war, to some extent, was about brutality, allocation, racism and expropriation. The war was about “labor, acquiring or making wealth, about capitalist development and what that means”. By claiming this concept in the war, the warriors took land from Native Americans and Mexican violently by showing dominating power of Andrew Jackson to realize their “American dreams”. The behavior of America that seizing lands from a weak neighbor country is not justified because it is morally wrong to seize a country that is much weaker. People who were violated would have eternal trauma, which leads to the result that the concept of Manifest Destiny is actually brutal and aggressive. The American actions are not justified because they were just taking their own benefits by doing violent
Chavez’s key argument in the article “Race, Manifest Destiny, and The US War with Mexico” proposes that racist tendencies in American society were predominant in the 1846-1848 Mexican-American War. The unfolding of “Manifest
To begin, the war waged against Mexico was unjustifiable because their goal was to expand slavery in the United States. In Document E, house representative Joshua Giddings states his stance on the war, “Mexico has
This expresses to the Americans, even from past events that Mexico is not
The current war being held between the United States and Mexico is not only unjust, but it is also another example of the Anglo Saxon need for possessions, and love of sovereignty. I as a former slave know all too well of this American love of supremacy, I was once shackled myself by the tyranny of slavery. I believe now Mexico may be America’s next victim of oppression, I fear that they may suffer the same fate as the slaves in America, when Mexico indisputably loses this war against America’s insatiable ambition for land. It can not be denied that President Polk has enticed Mexico into this War, with his unnecessary acts of aggression, such as his release of troops to the Mexican Border. It can be concluded that President Polk's and the
When Texas was annexed from Mexico in 1845, President Polk sent ambassadors to buy California and New Mexico, but Mexico’s new president ignored all meetings and rejected all treaty offers. Consequently, this increased tensions between the two nations because the leader of Mexico refused all our attempts to make peace between our countries. Not only did Mexico deny any treaty making, but she also would not accept the fact that Texas was now a part of the United States and therefore could not agree on a fair and logical border. Mexico’s actions throughout the United States’s quest to seek peaceful treaties between our two nations, proves the war was
What were Mexican ’s supposed to think that it was ok to try and cross over and take land that was the Mexicans to begin with. As you can see, the trespassing of the Americans onto the Mexican’s land and onto the undisputed land made American’s unjustified in going into war with
The Mexican-American war altered the United States environmentally, culturally and politically. First, on February 2, 1848, Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo two years post the beginning of the war. The treaty not only achieved President Polk’s goal to achieve California from Mexico but also granted the U.S. over 500,000 square miles of new territory. The new land caused approximately 90,000 spanish speaking, mostly Catholic Mexicans under American jurisdiction. Second, Nativism, a rising anti-catholic and anti-immigrant deemed the Mexicans inferior.
INTRODUCTION Throughout the 1840s and 1850s a major war happened called the Mexican American War which drastically changed the U.S. and Mexico and lead to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to be signed and which established the Rio Grande and not the Nueces River as the U.S Border. This also lead to the U.S. annexation of Texas and lead to the Mexico agreeing to sell California and the rest of the territory for 15 million. So you 're probably wondering why the war was fought but you 'll find that out later.
Thirdly, a second reason the Mexican War was not justified because US soldiers were in a disputed area. According to Jesus Velasco Marquez from “A Mexican Viewpoint on the War With the United States,” he states that “From Mexico’s point of view, the annexation of Texas to the United States was inadmissible for both legal and security reasons.” As well as, “The American government acted like a bandit who came upon a
As stated before, the US was justified in going to war with Mexico because of three reasons, Americans were killed, Texas was already annexed, and Manifest Destiny allows it. The United states had many superb reasons for going to war with Mexico. This essay is significant because it helps explain the United States’ choice to go to war with
Jesús Velasco-Márquez, a modern-day Mexican professor of studies wrote an article in 2006 about the Mexican-American War. He said, “US historians refer to this event as ‘The Mexican-American War’, while in Mexico, we prefer to use the term ‘The U.S. Invasion... From Mexico’s point of view, the annexation of Texas to the United States was inadmissible for both legal and security reasons. ’’’ (Velasco-Márquez, 12). During the time of the independence of Texas, Mexico was ruled by the dictator General Antonio López de Santa Anna.
During the period of 1800-1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo made peace between America and Mexico where securing territorial goals was America’s drive. With the strong belief of Manifest destiny arising, the U.S took the opportunity to bargain and assume possession of western territory dominated by their southern neighbor. In turn, preceding the Mexican-American War and leading to the aftermath of The Civil War. The historical causation of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo from the period of a New Nation leading up to The Civil War in regards to America in the World, show the habitual act of the United States wanting to expand, being dissatisfied in its position in the world and remaining the ‘International Superpower.’
Exploring and the need to expand the territory was a natural progression for the founding Fathers. There were many miles of territory with multiple resources for development. The division in the country over slavery continued. Two major events during this time was the declaration of the Mexican –American War and the Trail of Tears. A “naked land grab” is what the U.S. ultimately did and acquired half of Mexico’s territory.
The Mexican government believed that the border between Mexico and America
Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself wasn’t legitimate because of the revolution in Texas, motivation for superiority, and the U.S. government’s actions. To begin, the Texans began an unreasonable war because they didn’t follow Mexico’s laws and conditions. When Mexico started selling cheap land, they set conditions for the people moving in. The people had to convert to Catholicism, learn Spanish, become a Mexican citizen, and have no slaves. Many Americans didn’t like being told what to do, and disobeyed the rules and laws.
