World War One was is also known as the Great War. It was the first World war, it accompanied many different countries and eventually laid the groundwork for World War Two. At one point 1,220 guns in an eight mile radius began to fire, this was referred to as a suction cup because of all the noise. The Great War began because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. This happened on June 28, 1914 when a teenage Serbian nationalist gunned down Archduke and his wife sophie (“The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, 100 Years Ago”). Austria and Serbia soon declared war after that on the date of July 28, 1914("World War I." They soon called off their offensive attack in July. The French then took their forts back and slowly pushed forward, both sides suffered from six hundred thousand deaths.(“Battle of Verdun”) Battle of Jutland was mainly a sea battle that took place off the Denmark shore. There was a total of two hundred and fifty ships and one hundred thousand men(“Battle of Jutland”). This battle began on May 31st of 1916(C N Trueman). A few days after the Battle of Brusilov began on June 4th 1916(C N Trueman). The battle was planned as a distraction for the other offensives.
