WWI
WWI began July 28, 1914 and ended on November 11, 1918. This was the very first war among the countries. The war lasted 4 years. The president at the time was Woodrow Wilson. The war too place in Europe. August 1 Germany declared war on Russia. They sold war bonds and nobody got there money back. This event is connected to the russian revolution. “The man swimming against the stream knows the strength of it†- Woodrow Wilson
Prohibition
Prohibition was the banning of the distribution of alcoholic beverages. It began in 1920. Crime rate actually rose because of it. A significant person of the prohibition was Al capone. He was a famous gangster. He ran a illegal booze smuggling community under a casino.

This war had a lot of air conflict in it. Like kamikazes and bombers machine gun planes. There was a lot of marine warfare too. Like destroyer ships. When germany started running out of oil they made synthetic oil but they wanted the oil fields in russia. Germany in a dictatorship there is only one leader that was Adolf Hitler. We the allies won the war the british beat the german. The U.S dropped two atomic bombs on Japan because they bombed pearl harbor. “The casualties in the Civil War amount to more than all other wars - all other American wars combined. More people died in that war than World War II, World War I, Vietnam, etc. And that was a war for white supremacy. It was a war to erect a state in which the basis of it was the enslavement of black people.†-Ta-Nehisi Coates
CIA Established
The CIA was established September 18, 1947. Like most business the CIA took time to develop. It wasn't up and running the next day. The very first CIA headquarters was located on 2430 E St, NW in Washington DC. Harry S. Truman was the founder of the CIA. He was our 33rd president of the United States. The CIA's primary mission is to collect, analyze, evaluate and disseminate foreign intelligence to assist the president in making decisions relating to national security. This is a very complex process and involves a variety of steps. So basically the cia protect the united states along with the
Charles G Cogan wrote explicitly on congressional oversight of covert actions in 1993. A historian, Cogan is an associate of the Belfer Center’s International Security Program at Harvard’s John F Kennedy School of Government. Prior to Harvard, Cogan served as a CIA operative for 37 years, mostly spent overseas, including his term as the CIA Chief in Paris. His practical career with the CIA and his experiences as an academic in International Security give him a degree of authority over activities conducted by the CIA. In his article, Covert Action and Congressional Oversight.
Through Roosevelt’s meticulous planning and the funding from the CIA to pay/bribe the correct leaders the, CIA was able to maintain efficacy even when Mosaddeq was warned of the impending coup. Operation TPAJAX was one of the first examples of covert action and was such a resounding success that covert action became one of the main arms of US foreign policy, especially in regards to combating the spread of
How 1984 handles their citizens, who go against the Party and how The United States government handle such situation is vastly different, but there are similarities in the ideas and the outcome. One of the past directors of the CIA, William E. Colby felt that the public had the public needed to know what the CIA had done to cover up scandals and spoke about his interactions with Congress. Colby was an active member of the CIA after World War II, and during the Vietnam War, he became the Director of the CIA. Colby was quick to adopt a policy of openness about U.S. intelligence activities to different committees within the government itself, and also, to the citizens of the United States. While Colby revealed the importance of the tasks done
The prohibition was a huge disaster. It made it so easy for goons and crooks to have something to sell. In this case it was alcohol. Since people were illegally smuggling alcohol there was tremendous violence.
That meant that people were committing crimes just to get alcohol. If Prohibition made citizens do illegal things, than that is not something that America wanted. Another instance where Prohibition caused violence was with death. In Document B, the graph shows how deaths during Prohibition were very high. This can show that many of the murders were caused by those under the influence of alcohol.
Although drinking was generally thought to have declined during Prohibition, it had instead, continued uninterrupted in many parts of the country, particularly in large cities and areas with large foreign-born populations. Smuggling on such a large scale could not be prevented, and the illegal manufacture of liquor sprang up with such speed that authorities were hard pressed to contain it. Thus began a period of illegal drinking, lawbreaking, organized crime, and the corruption of public officials. During Prohibition there was a 24 percent increase in crime rate between 1920 and 1921. The rate of arrests on account of drunkenness rose 41 percent, and arrests for drunken driving increased 81 percent.
The Prohibition intended to limit a liberty of its people, which prompted massive growth in organized crime. That unintended consequence did not originate in one place alone: most were drawn to alcohol due to lack of clean water in the area. People who relied on alcohol to quench their thirsty suddenly found themselves between a rock and a hard place. Chicago was one of the earliest cities to become saturated with corruption. Chicago had a history of lawlessness, as criminals partook in gambling, prostitution, etc.
However, the law made the sale, manufacture, and use of all alcohol illegal. Prohibition failed because it was not easily enforced, it destroyed businesses and jobs, and lead to the rise of organized crime. It was a nice day on January 16th, 1919 when the 18th Amendment was ratified in congress and many celebrated the outlawing of alcohol. It didn’t take long however for people to find ways to break the law without getting caught which flourished the illegal alcohol trade. Speak-easies were popular during the 1920s and would be
This is demonstrated when Winston Churchill states that if the Allied powers had worked together to protect Czechoslovakia, then that could have prevented World War II (document 6). Churchill’s statement shows that collective security is the way to respond to aggression and that appeasement only provokes a war. The war lasted six years with many different battles between the Allies and the Axis’s. Hitler did not only invaded Poland, but from there fought his way through many other parts of the world such as Greece, France, Britain, and the Soviet Union. The quote, “It is us today.
People that supported the law thought it would make other things sales boost but instead they went down even more. Since it was illegal to sell alcohol many people turned to bootleg alcohol which was very toxic. It caused so much deaths and the crime rate actually increased. Many people became criminals by selling
Guns, gangs, women, alcohol, gambling, are just some things that come to mind when I hear prohibition. According to the online source American History, The Prohibition is the act of prohibiting the manufacturing, storage, transportation, and sale of alcohol, including any alcoholic beverage. This led to the biggest crime rates of all time. At the head of all the crime was one man. His name, Alphonse Capone aka (Scarface) .
The prohibition outlawed alcohol to try and diminish the crime rate. This led to a higher consumption of alcohol and illicit speakeasies. As fast as the police closed down one venue, more would spring up in its place (Prohibition in the United States). Government intrusion with the Volstead Act of 1919 outlawed beverages over 0.5 alcohol volume
By enforcing prohibition, the government hoped to decrease the death rate. But, prohibition did the opposite of its intention, it sparked an increase in death rates, both alcohol and non-alcohol influenced. During the preceding time period of prohibition, the rate of deaths from alcohol had begun to decrease, but around 1920 when prohibition was enforced, it suddenly increased again (Document F). This information shows that prohibition, specifically, triggered the death rate to ascend, again. Also, the death rate from alcohol poisoning was soaring during prohibition (IG).
Their bombing of the airfields and factories and destroyed a lot of their retaliation means and was allowing German bombers to push further and further into
World War I started in 1941 after the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. There were many other reasons like nationalism and the increase of military that caused the war. There were two major alliances at this time, the Central Powers, which consisted of Germany, Ottoman Empire, and Austrian-Hungarian Empire. The second alliance was called the Allied Powers, they had France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, and United States. There were other countries in these groups, but did not have much involvement.
