Swinging Through Time

Drummer Art Mardigan was part of the Phil Hill band that bopped the Blue Bird into the modern music scene — and jazz history. Mardigan was an inspiration to drummer Elvin Jones, who later took over the drum seat in the Bird’s houseband (by then directed by saxophonist Billy Mitchell) and developed into one of the most innovative and influential drummers in jazz.
