Drummer J.C. Heard left Detroit in the ’30s to become one of the bedrock percussionists in the swing era, playing and recording with Teddy Wilson, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman and Cab Calloway to name a few. Heard’s travels took him to Japan where he lived for several years before returning to Detroit in the ’70s. This late ’80s publicity shot puts him in front of the Renaissance Center. Heard died in 1989. | ||
