Among the key bands that Goldkette recruited was an Ohio outfit that came to be known as McKinney’s Cotton Pickers. Jazz historian Gunther Schuller in his book “The Swing Era” calls them “woefully neglected” and “one of only a handful of top-notch orchestras in the late ’20s.” More of the Cotton Pickers’ story is told in the second slide show. They are seated here around the Graystone fountain. | ||
