 | Winners of a dance contest at the Graystone Ballroom. Dancers numbering 2,000 and more thronged the floors to bands that included Rudy Vallee, the Casa Loma Band, Duke Ellington, Andy Kirk, Jimmy Lunceford, Benny Goodman and many lesser known outfits. Black and white audiences, though, were strictly segregated, with blacks relegated primarily to Monday nights at the Graystone. | |
