Oak Island Light
“Southport, North Carolina”
Built: 1958
“This light was the first lighthouse built on the Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina coast in 54 years. It replaced the Cape Fear Light which was located across the Cape Fear River on Bald Head Island. The tower is 155 feet tall. The black, white and gray colors which form the bands are mixed in the cement covering. Therefore the tower requires no outside painting. This light has the newest and most powerful beam of all American lighthouses.”
