Don C. Talayesva (Sun Chief), 1890-
Hopi
Don C. Talayesva was born in Oraibi, Arizona where he was raised as a traditional Hopi for the first ten years of his life. Talayesva later attended the reservation school and the Sherman School for Indians in Riverside, California where he received instruction in English and the white way of life. He returned to the Hopi reservation and 1938 started working with Yale University anthropologist, Leo Simmons, who helped him write his autobiography.
