Clifford E. Trafzer, 1949-

Clifford W. Trafzer was born in Mansfield, Ohio but raised in Arizona. Trafzer earned his B.A. and M.A.from Northern Arizona University in 1970 and 1971, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in History from Oklahoma University in 1973. His teaching career includes instructor, Navajo Community College, Tsaile, AZ; assistant and associate professor at Washington State University, Pullman; associate professor , professor, and chair, Department of American Indian Studies, San Diego State University; and professor and Chair of Ethnic Studies & Director of Native American Studies, University of California, Riverside. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the California Native American Heritage Commission, an agency that protects sacred sites and American Indian burial grounds. Currently he lives in Yucaipa, California. His professional affiliations include: Archivist of Special Collections, Northern Arizona University Library; and museum curator, the Arizona Historical Society. He is also a member of the American Historical Association, American Indian Historian’s Association, and California Indian Education Association.
