Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm was born in 1965 in Toronto. A Band member of the the Chippewa of Nawash, on the Cape Croker Reserve, Akiwenzie-Damm received an M.A. in English literature from the University of Ottawa in 1996. Her first chapbook was published in April 1993. She dedicated her writings to her grandmother O. Irene Akiwenzie. She currently lives in Neyaashiinigmiing (formerly the Cape Croker Reserve).
