Stephen Cole was a writer of Lakota and Ojibwe heritage and a veteran of the Vietnam War. His story of his experiences in the war and how he was helped by the teachings of his grandfather is told in his book, Silent Warrior. He died in 2005 in Clover, South Carolina of pancreatic cancer.
