Edna Manitowabi
, 1945-
Ojibwe
Edna Manitowabi was born in 1945. She writes about the effect the Catholic boarding school had on her and she relates this to her later life experiences, the feeling of inadequacy and fear which resulted from not being allowed to speak her own language, from being unable to understand her teacher’s English. Later Manitowabi went to Toronto, where she tried to commit suicide, but with psychiatric help she finally found peace which is reflected in her writings.
