Mehl was born January 26, 1954 in Berea, Kentucky. He was a prodigy graduating from high school at age 16 before earning his Bachelors in biophysics from Indiana University at age 18. In 1975, he graduated from Stanford Medical School as the youngest ever peacetime graduate. Mehl also has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He is currently a clinical assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He has written numerous articles and focuses on self-healing medicine.
