David Cusick , c 1780-c 1840

David Cusick was born around 1780 in upstate New York. He served in the War of 1812 and was a physician, painter and student of the Iroquois oral tradition. His “Sketches of Ancient History of the Six Nations,” first published around 1827 is one of the earliest works about Native American history and myth published in English and written by a Native American. Cusick died around 1840.
