Wuthering Heights is a classic novel by Emily Bronte, first published in 1847. The story of Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw has been adapted into several film versions over the years, most notably the 1939's version starring Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff and Merle Oberon as Cathy. This adaptation was the first time that Wuthering Heights had been brought to life on screen, and it remains one of the best-known adaptations today.
More recently, there have been two more feature-length films based on this beloved tale: 2011's version starring Kaya Scodelario as Cathy and James Howson as Heathcliff; and 2020's version with Andrew Lincoln playing the role of Heathcliff opposite Vanessa Kirby as Catherine Earnshaw. Both of these new renditions are faithful retellings of Bronte's original work that stay true to her themes while providing fresh interpretations for modern audiences. While they may not be quite as iconic or influential as Olivier's rendition, they nevertheless offer an engaging viewing experience for fans old and new alike.
