The History of World Wars

The two world wars that took place during the 20th century were some of the most devastating conflicts in history. These wars, which involved countries from all around the globe, changed how we view international relations and had a lasting impact on many societies. In this article, we will take a look at the history behind these monumental events.

Causes of WWI and WWII

Both World War I (WWI) and World War II (WWII) were caused by numerous factors, but there are certain key elements to each conflict that can be identified as major causes for their outbreak. WWI was sparked by an assassination; Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was killed by Gavrilo Princip while he was visiting Sarajevo in 1914. This event set off a chain reaction across Europe due to existing alliances between various nations; Germany declared war on Russia shortly after learning about Ferdinand's death, ultimately leading to a full-scale global conflict with more than 30 countries taking part in it before its end four years later, in 1918.

WWII is often seen as an extension or continuation of WWI since many aspects, such as unresolved issues with reparations, led directly into it. However, several new developments also played important roles in setting up conditions favorable for another large-scale military confrontation. Adolf Hitler's rise to power and his aggressive foreign policy expansionism created instability throughout Europe, while Japan's militarization further increased tensions between East Asian nations like China and Korea, which opposed Japanese imperialism during this period. All these events contributed heavily towards creating circumstances where total war could occur again only twenty years after WWI ended, eventually resulting in even greater destruction than before when both atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki near its conclusion. 1945.
