Explain in detail the role of TCP/IP protocol and how it links to application layer protocols
What is TCP/IP?
TCP/IP stands for transfer communication protocol/internet protocol it works by communicating between two computers; internet protocol shows how packets of information are distributed to different networks there’s an IP address method that lets computers send a packet to another computer. The Internet Protocol works with TCP to send packets of information over the internet. Protocols are set of guidelines the computer follows while sending this packets to their destination. As seen above this is how the TCP/IP works, first of all it breaks down information into packets of data then the packets of information travel one router to other until all the information get put back together and is then sent to the right destination.

FTP transfers information such as webpages, you can also use FTP to download programs and files, when using it you can use it with the command line which has interface to transfer files. While using FTP there are two ways you can transfer files one of them is by uploading which will let your transfer a file from a computer to the server and the other way is downloading which is when the server transfers the file to your computer. While on the internet File transfer protocol is for commanding and the other for when information is sent and received, FTP uses the IP (Internet Protocol) to communicate over the internet. FTP uses a port, a port is connection point and the server for FTP uses 21 for sending which is why it is referred to as the command port but FTP is also used for sending files and that port is known as the data
