The advent of record and radio improved the conditions for early country performers. It helped the spread of music to people around the world. The radio and records made it possible to share knowledge and also music by allowing people to stay in their homes while listening to a vast number of songs. By the 1920s, you were able to tune into a live radio and listen or sing along to any country artist. Records and radios also gave people from small towns a chance to spread their songs to bigger audiences for free. The “Grand Ole Opry” became a famous radio broadcast in Nashville, Tennessee. This is how the record and radio improved the conditions for early country performers.

The main themes of country music during this era were traditional family values, old-time religion, lost love, and the adventures of the rambling man. Many Americans loved these themes, therefore enjoying the songs. The country singers also enjoyed writing songs with these themes to share stories from their own life.

The themes in country music have stayed the same throughout the past century. If you listen to artists like Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band, and Blake Shelton, the messages they give are very similar to the ones in the ‘30s. However, the sound of country music has changed vastly. Also, technology has gotten better allowing for better transmission of the music.
