The brochure, The Connection Between TV and School Scores (Trelease, 2011) is a very interesting, and informative brochure, that gives the parents a chance to read about the life of Ben Carson, and how his mother helped him overcome his low grades, in elementary school, to become one of the top five children in his school on graduation day. This is an inspiring story, and one that needs to be told as an encouragement, and inspiration to those parents that are discouraged and feel like there is no hope. In the brochure it talks about Finland, and the children watching television with closed caption on in their native tongue, and the parallel to their reading scores. Again this can give hope to parents struggling to find a way to help their children, and they may not have thought about the television as a learning tool before being handed this brochure. The second brochure, 10 Facts Parents Should Know About Reading (Trelease, 2009) is a wonderful little brochure that breaks things down quickly, and precisely, so that if the parent does not want to, or does not have the time to read the whole brochure they can skim pieces of the brochure and glean valuable information that they can use at home.
Reading is thus central to education, because it is the only means by which all of man’s knowledge can be passed down truly
I would start by introducing myself to all the parents and ask them what they would like to learn about or if they have any questions on what literacy is. I would tell them how valuable education is and that we need to pass on that value to your children. (Diane M Barone/Marla H. Mallette, 2013). We are going to provide home activities for you as parents to do with your child. This will help build your child’s literacy skills and we will have goals and structure for your child.
Reading and writing let us as humans share a vast range of facts and opinions that can help us build new and greater things or help us achieve our personal goals. Fredrick Douglass learned how cruel the world was once he was able to read about slaves and his position on life
Many students read-only to finish rather than to understand what they have read." Many students have yet to be interested in reading lengthy
Chapter nine is Building Blocks really helped me take a step back and look at the way we did things in the daycare/preschool I currently work at. There are many areas that we need to modify in our learning environment that promotes literacy. The children rarely ever get the chance to engage in literacy activities and the amount of supplies and books are not enough for the children. The checklist of important elements for supporting early literacy can be a helpful tool to use in a classroom to make sure students are getting every opportunity to build on their literacy skills.
I think something that should be looked at would be how reading is connected with the way we write which
This application of the reading process should allow the reader to “deep read” when necessary, letting the information be absorbed entirely and
Those who were born with a love to read, will always read, no matter what information is thrown at them. Vice versa, those that do not particularly like to read may be affected by their use of the internet, or just never read for understanding, because they dislike reading. Another part that could affect someone’s reading habits is their job. For instance the writer’s reading habits were changed, because his job requires him to obtain information to present. When the information became more readily available, it was easy for him to skim and pick out what he wanted to use in his papers instead of only having a select few of informational sources to use.
Reading is what gives the one the ability to devour knowledge and direct its way to many other people seeking in knowledge that will later contribute to their
Practically everyone read one or two books, and then there was the occasional student who 'd managed to thumb through five or six. I was one of the last to be called on. “Kayla?” Mrs. Fisher said, prepared to tack on a book or two more. “Twenty-seven,” I’d said, and smoothed out my filled-up reading log.
This outlook is reflected in national surveys, the number of literary non-readers in the United States is starting to outweigh the number of readers and, this has slowly been proceeding over the past 20 years (Gioia 421). Reading is a fundamental part of life. It’s a major way of expression, imagination, learning and being the best person
Literacy Autobiography My mother read to me as a child for fun and school. She read us books such as, Go Dog Go, You Read to Me, I’ll Read to you, and To Kill a Mockingbird. My father read books to my sister and I, such as Fairy Realm, Little House, and Percy Jackson, before bedtime. I now find reading very enjoyable, even though my dyslexia has made reading more difficult.
When kids read, they can sometimes lose them self in there head or in a train of thought. My first reason why kids should read historical documents, is that a lot happened in the past that changed how we live today. The thing with kids now is that they have all this technology at their fingertips, but take example in your parents teachers or even your grandparents they didn’t have as much technology as we did they didn’t have smart phones and laptops to look up stuff they had to pick up a book and get to reading if they wanted to find something out so they the only thing for them to really do was to read about the past and find out how the founding fathers got together and made this world work and how some of these important documents worked out and made this world the place it is today. And one of the big reason is that most kids find learning about history is boring and when they are told to read they either just skim though it and don’t lean nothing or they just zone out and not do it at all.
The reasons are that it is through reading that a person is going to be able to discover new ideas, concepts, meet new places and people that time, money or reality sometimes prohibited. It develops your communication tools and expands you knowledge and the conception around you. First of all, reading gives you a wonderful opportunity to learn about other cultures and places of interest in the world. It gives you an insight into the diversity of our world and the chance to visualize it.
