Inside Amy Schumer - How in contrast to men, women are devalued in Hollywood

In Comedy Central’s show Inside Amy Schumer, Comedian Amy Schumer, through various sketches lays the concerns regarding modern women. Some issues she talks about are rape culture in “A very realistic Military game” and self-deprecation in “Compliments”. However one topic that never leaves her focus is the representation of women in Hollywood and the media overall. One of her sketches called “12 Angry Men Inside Amy Schumer”, which is the parody of the film “12 Angry Men”, is a satire of the sexist double standard regarding appearance. The scene further showcases that male desire is much more complicated than it would first seem and a less universal phenomenon, as far as ideals are concerned, than men are aware of or even care to admit. Men do not want their masculinity to be threatened and are willing to hide and even change their preferences in women just to protect their masculinity in society. It is a commentary on men and the male attitude towards women, revealing that men view women as sex objects. Moreover they will only consider a women attractive if she is marketable and accepted as a sex object because then she will be labeled by society as “attractive”. They want to agree on the consensus that would showcase a perfect woman without any flaws, however they are suppressing the fact that these differences and distinctions is what make women distinct individuals and these differences and distinctions are what the men are attracted to; however the men who were dominating the conversation while talking about the “flaw less women” are never going to agree with that. Moreover, we see that women are supposed to be grateful once they are labeled as “attractive”. We see when the Judge tells Schumer “The jury agreed that they would bang you. You 're hot enough for basic cable television.” Schumer replies “Yes! Thank you, your Honor.” Her jubilant state is a poignant reminder that how women constantly seek approval from men and in a way are responsible for the state they find themselves in. Therefore it shows that Amy was completely fine with a group of 12 men critiquing her appearance and is finally relieved that they “approved” her to be on basic cable television. This shows that women have accepted the fact that their value is only defined to the point they are marketable as sex objects. Amy has deliberately underplayed her appearance as she is dressed in a pinafore in somber shades and her hair is neatly arranged in a serviceable style to keep in the norm of what the jurors were discussing while sealing her fate. Earlier in the discussion one of the jurors had unveiled her portrait where she looked delectably attractive. Thus we can see that Amy is making her point very vociferously that a woman 's fate is sealed by what men
