The theme of this play in the 1950s is important because it was someone's life in the hands of a jury. Meaning it was all up to 12 men that either had something else to or didn't want to be there. The play was very upbeat and responsive mainly because it was a constant argument between jours, Not knowing if their opinion mattered and the changing of minds over facts rather than an opinion. Act one started off with a guilty charge of 11:1. This was the start of an issue because most of the men in the group were saying guilty based on judgement and not knowing the facts behind the crime. Most men there had better or more important things to then be in a courtroom with one window in the middle of summer. The remaining men didn't want to be there in general. Except for juror number eight he was the only man who voted not guilty in the first round. After round one of talking the men were still stuck with a vote of 11:1 guilty. In a courtroom all jurors that attend must agree on a plea whether it be not guilty or guilty. This was very clear to juror number eight and he wanted to fight for this kid because he believed that he wasn't a murder. Very soon into the second attempt to find a plead juror number nine comes out and joins number eight on the not guilty side with some information to back it up also. Leaving round two the votes were still very close with 10:2
