The 12th amendment was major changes in the way presidential election were handled and the way voting was viewed. The 12th amendment was ratified June 15, 1804 after the presidential election of 1800. In the presidential election was between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson each party believed if either side would win it could ruin the nation. Each party wanted different things were the Federalists wanted a strong federal government and the Democratic-Republicans want a strong state government. When it came time to vote everyone running were put on the same ballot with no differential to show who was president and who was vice-president.
