The 1920s was the beginning of a new life for everyone in America, new things people never would have imagined to use in the past were now accessible. Years before,most people used railroads and wagons to get places. Not only that but, society was split between the north and south. Revolving labor, people usually farmed and owned property, but this would soon change.The 1920s came with unexpected turning points, new technological developments, social behavior change, and economic oppurtunities. These were two very different social issues. Fugitive Slave Act in 1850 said that if someone saw a runaway slave they were to return him or her to their owner, this caused many issues for people against slavery. The 18th amendment outlawed the sale, production,and transportation of alcohol. This angered many people, but saught to improve home life. Social Darwinism was also a factor that propsed certain nations and races are more superior to others and destined to rule over them. Fundamentalism emphasized Protestant teachings that every word in the bible was the literal truth, and believed that the answer to everything is in the bible and strong in rural America. The Scopes Trial of 1925 involved the clash of fundamentalism and modernism when a teacher teaches evolution in the public school and is arrested and charged. Quota system governs immigration from specific countries causes limits on immigrants. The Flappers, women wear short skirt and bob, they want control and end victorian code. Women in NAWSA call for reform and fight for laws to have jobs and equal rights amendment is their goal.The 1920s social issues compared to before are very different, focusing more on religion and immigration rather than slavery and Social darwinism, where whites believed they were more supieror than blacks, causing many social issues encouraging violence.
