“Rock and Roll is characterized by a heavy beat and simple melodies.” In the united kingdom rock and roll wasn't introduced until the late 1950’s. However the 1950’s, 60’s, and today have a different sense of characterization as each era goes by. Nonetheless the 1960’s rock and roll belonged to the Britians. Rock and roll came from the youth and after the result of world war II the teenage generation was able to finally have a freedom of speech. The parents of this generation wanted their children to enjoy their youth and have more freedom. One could say it’s like the two groups in the book The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton.. Mods were seen as a modern type with their suits, pointed shoes, and motor scooters. This look was influenced by artists like The Who or The Yardbirds. As for rockers were more like bikers with their black leather jackets, motorcycle boots, and motorcycles. Their look was influenced by artists like Gene Vincent or Eddie Cochran. Liverpool, England late 50’s a group named The Quarrymen dressed like the rockers. A man named John Lennon, 1940-1980, formed the band with his teenage friends and use to play skiffle/ rock and roll music. Early July 1960 they changed their name to The silver Beatles because they wanted something catchy like Buddy Holly’s Crickets. When they decided to move away from the skiffle genre and focus more on rock and roll two of the members left. Now the band was a trio with Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. However the sound of rock and roll changes as the years pass and new bands form. Rock and roll could be now called Pop rock, Indie rock, and Alternative rock. The sound could either be a soft or hard core rock depending on the genre. As for other United Kingdom's rock and roll bands such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Arctic Monkeys, Bring Me the Horizon, 1975 and etc.. Are all successful from during or after the late 60’s in their own genre of rock. Today’s rock band, Bring Me the Horizon, is from a city in the United kingdom called Sheffield, Yorkshire. They are considered more of a hard core rock band in their early albums, 2004, but today has leaned a little over to Alternative. Yet they still try to keep their original sound their fans know and love. Another rock band that has arose is the band called 1975; formed in Manchester, United Kingdom. Their sound is far from hard core and instead they are an Indie/ Alt rock band. In 2013 their song “Chocolate” reached number 19 on the UK singles
