This label I’m most intrigued with is a subsidiary of Universal Music group known as Motown Records. Founded by Berry Gordy, the label was originally known as Tamla Records, but it changed its’ name after suggestions from the Ford assembly line. Now the title Motown fits the city that it was established in, Detroit, Michigan which is also known as the Motor City. Motown Records and its’ artists were influential in the integration of popular music and added soul and culture that had not been seen before. Significance can be found in the fact Motown Records wasn’t simply trying to achieve commercial success, but trying to tell their story and affect the community.

The corporation reshaped the music industry, signed and produced artist that would go on to become huge stars. Motown still has its fair share of action in today’s music industry. Motown is a living piece of history that has still remained relevant today.
Motown records was instrumental to creating the vibe of the 60’s. It would produce many hit songs and create powerhouse music groups. It would also go on to shape the rock and roll genre as we know it today. In January of 1959 Berry Gordy would establish Motown Records with an $800 loan from his family and within a few years, would be producing some of the greatest hits of the time.
On July 24, 1701, the oldest city outside of the original thirteen colonies was founded. This city would go on to be one of the more fascinating cities of the United States. Not only is this city home to riveting buildings, such as the only floating post office in America, but it is also home to Motown. This city is Detroit. With the merger of different styles of jazz and blues, Detroit was filled with potential; it wasn’t until Motown, though, that this talent reached a national level.
These two are both country singers and both are well known country singers, Hank Williams Sr. and Willie Nelson are some of the best known classics, when one thinks of country, these two names come to mind. Hanks Williams Sr. was born on September 17, 1923, and Willie Nelson was born on April 29, 1933. Today, currently, Willie Nelson is still alive while, unfortunately Hank Williams Sr. is not. Hank Williams Sr. died on New Year Day of 1953. Willie Nelson is the son of Myrle and Ira D. Nelson, they were sixteen when they had Willie Nelson.

The Band was formed and they named themselves smile, a precursor to the famous band queen.

It was also known as “the Roaring Twenties”. This movement coincided with the end of the World War I and the introduction of the mainstream radio. Led Zeppelin may very well be credited to be one of the most popular in era bands to date. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham were a “force that could not be reckoned with” and everybody wanted a little piece of their music. Led Zeppelin holds the largest audience for a single-act show of 77,229 thousand people at the Silverdome in Michigan in 1977. Not believing in radio singles and only having a handful of them Led Zeppelin kept their fans waiting for the full length albums and through their career sold over 69 Million copies of those albums. Touring all over the world and playing a mass 514 shows in only 10 years, no matter who you were you simply could not ignore those who were Led Zeppelin.

These are all major themes which have forever altered the course of future societies and are themes that are still massive influences on our societal decisions today!
