“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell was a writer that wrote things like Animal Farm, Down and Out in Paris and London, ¨The Road to Wigan Pier¨, and 1984. The name George Orwell is just a pen name, his real name is Eric Arthur Blair. He used the name Orwell not wanting to embarrass his family when he wrote a book about the lives of the working and poor. The book was published in 1933 with the title Down and Out in Paris and London. The book became his first major work, therefore he decided to stick with the name George Orwell (biography.com). Orwell was born on June 25, 1903 in British India (wikipedia.org). George’s first word was ¨Beastly¨, and it is assumed that he said that because of his sickness at the time. In 1933 Orwell published his first major work Down and Out in Paris and London (biography.com). In 1936 George was asked to write an article on the situation in England, which in turn Orwell published “The Road to Wigan Pier” about unemployed miners in northern England. Late 1936 he traveled to Spain to fight against General Francisco Franco in the Spanish Civil War. He soon traveled back home in fear of being caught (bbc.co.uk).
George Orwell’s first literary success was at the age of eleven when a writing of his went into the paper. Even though he wrote his first poem at the age of four (biography.com). Orwell became famous with his two writings Animal Farm (1945) and 1984 (1949) (wikipedia.org). In 1943 George Orwell became the literary editor of the Tribune (bbc.co.uk).
Most of his life Orwell was sick, and at one point he got diagnosed with Tuberculosis which he battled the rest of his life. On January 21, 1950 George Orwell died of Tuberculosis in London, United Kingdom (wikipedia.org). His wife Sonia inherited his estate and made a living by managing his legacy
