Throughout the text we are presented with a manipulation of ideology from Big Brother, they constantly remind the reader of their slogan: “WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.”9 The effect this has on the reader is of a constant reminder of what Big Brother believes. Not only the citizens of Oceania see it everywhere and hear it in every corner, but the reader is reminded of what kind of regime they are undergoing into. The whole slogan is a contrast of what a transparent and prudent human being should be and the words have a strong impact on the reader due to its short yet effective persuasion techniques. The contrast shows capital letters, Orwell has done this intentionally in order to be able for the slogan to stand out. He uses a juxtaposition in order to question whether its right or not and at the same time to reflect the madness Big Brother has, the slogan reflects their double morals and how nothing in their society makes …show more content…

The term “doublethink” gives the “contradictory beliefs” a more serious meaning and this makes not only Oceania’s society but also the reader believe it. It argues Doublethink has“power”, yet Oceania’s people don’t know they are being manipulated by Big Brother’s power. It is another way in which we see how the Party has got power over the citizens and no one dares to question Doublethink or either reason about it. It’s another example of a hypocrite juxtaposition, Big Brother not only play with their peoples minds but with the reader as well, Orwell has created this in order to add a confusion
