The American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of ethics “enables the association to clarify to current and future members, and to those served by the members, the nature of the ethical responsibilities held in common by its members” (ACA, 2014). Code of Ethics constantly needs revision as changes occur in the profession. Revisions of Code of Ethics are necessary to expand knowledge and to deal with the trending issues. It helps to grow and develop counseling as a profession. The ACA Code of Ethics has expanded with time from 1995 to 2014. The 2005 ACA Code of Ethics discusses about the expanded role of counselors in assessment, evaluation and interpretation. It defines the boundaries of the counselors when conducting legal proceeding. In the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics, many revisions in section E is done to provide clarity regarding these roles of the counselors. The 2014 ACA Code of Ethics also mentions legal and ethical obligation regarding the diagnosis of mental disorders within a diverse world which was not previously mentioned in the 1995 ACA Code of Ethics.
