30 Second Showdown Tombstone Arizona, a small abandoned town is known for its mining and old western atmosphere.On October 26, 1881, Tombstone was about to be remembered for a gunfight that is still talked about to this day. A cowboy gang including the Clanton and Mclaury Brothers and the Earp family, consisting of Wyatt, Morgan, Virgil Earp, and John Henry “Doc’’ Holliday., got into a feud over Josephine Marcus, later to be known as Josephine Earp. Despite the fact that this gunfight only lasted thirty seconds it resulted in multiple deaths, and armed miners rushing into town to preserve peace. Although many citizens of Tombstone believe Wyatt Earp is guilty of cold blooded murder during the fight at OK corral, his killing was validated.. …show more content…

The now partially abandoned town gained its name because when founding the town, Edward was told he was more likely to find his Tombstone than any silver in the town due to the Indians who lived on the land. However, when people heard the news about finding silver they began to inhabit the land. The town is also known for Boot Hill Cemetery, a graveyard for outlaws, criminals and thieves. Wyatt Earp, a lawman born in Monmouth, Illinois on March 19, 1848 moved to Tombstone after the death of his late wife Urilla Sutherland. He joined a gang of thieves and stole horses which led him to jail due to not giving them up. When he arrived in Tombstone, he met Josephine Marcus, and eventually they fell in love despite the fact she was to be married to Wyatts enemy, John Benhan . When John found out he was enraged and made threats to Wyatt which caused him to live in fear of being killed. This led the two men to fight out their argument at OK corral .Wyatts intentions were questionable due to his criminal record. Because of his questionable record , after the feud at the Ok Corral the people of Tombstone were unsure of the motives of this fight,and whether he was a cold- blooded murderer or if it was caused by the cowboy gang.
