Dreams are exquisite phenomenons that can often be analyzed to help you realize new things in the conscious state. The subject for this study is a 15 year old female who is 5’ 6” and weighs approximately 130 lbs. The dreams being analyzed are mostly connected to her daily life recently. Throughout the study, she thought about her dreams and realized that there were subtle symbols that could be compared to events in her daily life. The following paper shows the analysis of three of her 15 dreams from over the course of the week. Dreams can be compared to books. Symbols throughout the adventure can be more meaningful than what is seen on the surface. The Retainer Certain dreams can retrieve past memories. In this dream, the patient reported feeling satisfaction, followed by remorse. In the dream, the subject’s plastic retainer was poking her gums. I was late at night so she couldn’t call her orthodontist. Instead, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She cut it into two pieces in the formation shown below. After cutting it, she realized her mistake and immediately felt guilty of her actions. One unique aspect of this dream is how when she woke up, the guilt lingered as if the retainer was actually cut. The illusion of getting ready made her wake up late because the dream felt like reality. When she got up, she experienced déjà vu. The exact same routine that was in the dream was becoming a reality. This instance can be explained with the information consolidation theory of sleep. The information consolidation theory states that dreams can suggest what might happen in the day. This dream clearly shows what might happen when the subject wakes up. It gave a little insight to the subject on what her day might look like.
