The 5 Day Schedule of the Ancient Greek Olympics Around the world everybody awaits the day that reunites the world, the first day of the Olympics. Every four years, there is that one day that everyone stops what they are doing and gather together in front of the television and enjoy these few moments together with the world. But did you ever think about what the ancient Olympics were like? We all know how the Olympics work these days, but do you know how they worked in the ancient times? 1ST Day On the first day of the ancient Olympics, contestants and trainers surrounded the Bouleuterion, also known as the main council building in Olympia. Ten Hellanodikai and Organizers made the Olympic oath. After, the competitors would proceed to the sacred Altis. The Altis was a special olive grove that went with many of the altars. Soon, the first sports began. This day the sports were running, wrestling, and boxing for boys. The afternoon was free for contestants to explore Olympia. The most exciting monument to explore was the Temple of Zeus, which is considered one of the ancient wonders of the world today. 2nd Day Horses, riders, and chariot races were held in the Hippodrome, the racing area. Then, the leaves were precisely woven into beautiful wreaths.
