Write a 500-word essay describing your professional aspirations and what led you to your choice. If you are still discerning different options describe which ones you currently feel most called toward? What academic or other experiences led you to this decision? How do you feel that a well-rounded liberal arts and sciences education can help you achieve your goals? I am interested in pursing a career in pediatric medicine or pharmacology. A liberal arts and sciences education will create an opportunity for me to enhance not just skills in a specific major, but in all subjects. The well-rounded program will improve my writing skills, my knowledge of historical events, my reading comprehension, and many other skills formed in the Magis CCAS Core Curriculum, as well as math and science skills needed to become a pharmacist or pediatrician. When entering a pharmaceutical or medical career I will not only need to know math and science skills, but many English, Social Studies, religious, fine art, and foreign language skills will impact everyday work as a pharmacist or pediatrician. In Haiti I ran a kids’ club and a clinic, in which I handed out prescriptions. While being a float volunteering at the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital I spent one-on-one time with patients and siblings of all ages, which includes rocking/holding infants, taking toddlers for stroller rides, playing video/board games, which ultimately allowed the kids to play and simply be kids.
